[RBW] Re: 10.29.20 Blahg music

2020-11-02 Thread Paul Clifton
My friend reminded me of this great Bobbie Gentry and Donovan duet of
"There is a Mountain": https://youtu.be/8uGnEc0DhY4

Last time I got "There is a Mountain" as an earwig, I ended up listening to
The Allman Brothers for a couple weeks. My dad told me he must have seen
them 20 or more times, living in Atlanta in the 70s.

This time, it me to the Long Beach Dub Allstars version, which is OK, but
either way, it's been King Tubby and dub rarities all day.

This Mighty Sparrow song is great. Can you link to any of the local pop
music you mentioned?

2020-11-02 Thread Joel Stern
Very nice build. I have the tektro side pulls before they became Silver
brakes, that is the limiting factor. I am ok with 42’s because the Sam
wears 48’s but at least I know if I change brakes I could use 48’s although
I think the bike would be too big for me then, just make it now with little
clearance.

Thanks and enjoy.

wish Grant would resurrect the saluki/bleriot with bigger tire clearance,
few more mounts and higher bottom bracket, it would be PERFECT. I had a
third bottle mount added to the BB and a front rack mount to the drop out.

here's an album to my build if anyone is curious.

[RBW] Re: Handlebar bags

2020-11-02 Thread Paul Clifton
Since this thread is still going and packed with lots of good
recommendations, I thought I'd add something. I got inspired to search for
"bike bag" on etsy the other day and was pleasantly surprised by the
results. https://www.etsy.com/search?q=bike%20bag

There are tons of fun options, and I bet most of these crafts-people would
do a custom feature or two. Some of them are even well-known bike bag
brands (e.g. Roadrunner).
I haven't bought any of these, but I think I will next time I need a bag.
The prices are definitely pretty fair!

Ellum Bag Works
has

some cool looking options (tie dye stem bottle bag
,

but it might not fit a 32oz bottle. This one

will though.).

Stradasoul

makes some cool looking stuff made out of cordura and repurposed inner
tubes, including a stem bag
(seems

too small), but I really like this medium sized handlebar bag

.

BriggsAdeventureGear makes a decent looking cordura stem bag
that

fits a 1-liter nalgene and is only $35 bucks, but it might not be classy
enough for that beautiful new Platypus.

And LexisTreeFort has the best looking little handlebar tube I've ever seen
with a ton of options to customize,
https://www.etsy.com/listing/795747837/custom-round-bicycle-handlebar-bag-you?ref=shop_home_active_6=1

I can't wait to see your new bike built up!

[RBW] Re: Bike mirrors

2020-11-02 Thread masmojo
I've never felt the need for a mirror on my normal bike, but when I got my
Ebike I discovered that it's pretty easy to get crosswayz going 20+ MPH if
you are constantly checking behind you.
I first bought an Electra bike mirror and while I liked the look of it, the
lens rattled around at high speed
I found these and they work pretty good
Serfas, the problem I've always had with bike mirrors is they typically
don't stick out enough for you to see beyond your arm, the bar end mirrors
sort of solve this problem, but typically only work well on drop bars where
again your arm is not in the way.
Another problem is looks: does it convey the proper esthetic?
Leah's not going to want a mirror that looks funky on her Shiny new
Platypus; the German mirrors look kinda funky honestly.
The Serfas mirror has a couple articulation points, the arm doesn't stick
up too much, but does stick out enough to be able to see around your arms.
Probably not an issue with Bosco Bars or bars that sweep straight back.
On top of that they look nice, not dorky. IMHO

Re: [RBW] Re: Handlebar bags

2020-11-02 Thread greenteadrinkers
Hi Leah,

My wife has this in *white* on her bike (she loves it, it's perfect for a
day trip bag). It's super functional, really well made, and kinda high
fashion.

https://thecyclelist.co/product/dark-realm-tbd-handlebar-bag/

I've mounted it on my Sam that's set-up with a Bosco-moose and it worked
great. I'd suggest getting a large fit water bottle cage for the 32oz
bottle, that much water, up high, and out front of the bars will noticeably
affect handling (I've tried it!).

Crust seems to have the impossible to find hand-dyed version in stock:
