I think you're right, that looks like an early Toyo Atlantis "2" with the
pointed head lug and I think those tires say Rat Trap Pass on them.

[RBW] Re: Susie in a downhill bike park

2021-07-28 Thread Robert Hakim
Not to downplay your accomplishment at all- I always found the riding at
Park City and Deer Valley to be pretty groomed. I used to get similar "Good
Luck Buddie" comments riding my old ridged 29er there too, but never really
found any trails in that immediate region that were uncomfortably
challenging.

If anything the bros are all completely overbiking the whole place, but
such is the mountain biking culture in that area.

I hope you keep turning heads on all of the trails!

highly enjoyable despite dealing with ridiculous bros.

Got a ton of looks and comments, ranging from very positive ("Right
on!", "Old school!", "Love it!") to puzzled and dismissive ("good luck,
 buddy").

She handled great! I don't ride downhill hardly ever, but she was super
balanced even on the black diamond stuff that the bros were tearing down.
 I
was able to keep up with my friends who were basically riding soft dually
suspended pillows. I found my Tosco bars to be perfect for the descents,
and my 2.5" Terravail's at 10psi to be enough to absorb a lot of the bumps
 and grippy in tight corners.

I was a little nervous about how she would do on some fairly gnarly
terrain and she was great. Not looking to spend too much time at bike
parks, but good to know she is up for the challenge if I do.

[RBW] Re: SOMA Lucas 3 Front Rack with 650Bs?

2021-07-28 Thread JAS
Caroline, I bought my Clem used with a Soma front rack and basket. The
measurements of mine are the same as the one you referenced so it's likely
the same one though there is nothing labeling it besides the brand. My
Clem has 650b wheels and V-brakes with Big Ben tires (27.5 x 2.00) and
fenders. The rack cleared the front fender and I've hauled some pretty
heavy groceries in the basket without any issues. It's a sturdy rack.
Good luck with your search and have fun camping!

RivSisters,
Joyce

[RBW] SOMA Lucas 3 Front Rack with 650Bs?

2021-07-28 Thread Caroline Golum
Anyone have this rack? I’ve been looking for an inexpensive front rack
solution for potential camping trips (additionally, will probably put out
an APB for bike camping compadres later…).

https://www.somafab.com/archives/product/lucas-2-mini-front-rack

My biggest concern obviously is clearance with side pull brakes, front
fenders, and 650B wheels. Having a tough time finding any intel online so I
figured I’d ask the experts.

Thanks!

[RBW] WTT Large Orange Susie Frameset

2021-07-28 Thread mgm...@gmail.com
Hello out there.

This bike has been great but it's just a touch too big for me. I picked up
the frame/fork/headset from Rivhq last summer and built it up myself. I've
put maybe 250 miles on it since. It's in great shape with some very minor
paint rub marks - what you'd expect from a bike that's been ridden.

I'd consider selling it, but I'd like to first see if anyone is interested
in a Riv for Riv trade. I'd be into an Atlantis or an Appaloosa or a Sam.
If you have a 650b/700c Riv framset and you're interested in a trade, get
in touch and let me know what you have. I have a 84cm pbh.

Pictures here .

I'd like this to be a local transaction.

Thanks,
Matt in Oakland

Re: [RBW] Tumbleweed Rack on 26" fork -- Hunqapilllar?

2021-07-28 Thread Josh Brown
Eric,

I emailed Daniel that same question and this was his response:

"You should have no problem with clearance above your tire, but there’s no
real downside to having the rack that’s a little tall other than
aesthetics. The difference between the two rack sizes is only about an
inch, we mainly do the two sizes to accommodate bikes with big wheels and
low rack mounts where there might be clearance issues with the tire. "

Regarding the says, I trimmed mine and it looks great.

[RBW] Tumbleweed Rack on 26" fork -- Hunqapilllar?

2021-07-28 Thread Ginz
Hello,

Has anyone tried to fit the Tumbleweed T-Rack or Pannier Rack (355mm deck
height?) on a Hunqapillar or similar 26" fork using the bosses on top of
the fork crown?

I'm wondering if that would work. Some bending of the rack stays might be
required by I can't tell if the stays' mounting block would be at the right
height.

I have a Nitto 32F on there but might try something new.

Thanks for any advice.

Eric

Re: [RBW] Re: measured speed differences between road and touring bikes

2021-07-28 Thread Clark Fitzgerald
John,

Good idea to correct for weight differences. Better to record the data as
it appears as a new variable, and then apply any corrections later to the
entire data set after the fact, so we have:

Rider, PercentSpeed, WeightDiffLbs
Clark, 82, 15
Fullylugged, 99, NA
aeroperf, 96.5, 2.5

Yes, my touring bike is at least 15 lbs heavier than my road bike.

We could take this "recording more variables" idea much further and make
tables for rider, bike, route, and ride, and record all kinds of variables
for each one. If I had infinite time...

[RBW] FS: Hubbuhubbuh Tandem L/M

2021-07-28 Thread a spen
Hi Folks,

After a great deal of deliberation, discussions with family and friends,
and much hand wringing, I've decided to list our Hubbuhubbuh Tandem. This
is my all-time favorite ride, but our lives and family have changed and
alas, it is time to let it go.
The bike rides like a dream, is so much fun to ride and quite suitable for
road, gravel, bike paths, and even some off road single track. A very
adaptable ride.

A bit of info about the bike:

--It's a lovely sage green, size L/M. It will (and has) accommodate a very
wide range of riders from 6'9" to 5'1". The captain should be on the
taller side (6' and taller) while the stoker should be between 5'1" and
6'1". I am happy to take specific measurements as is helpful, just let me
know.

--Very easy use at under 150 miles, in Excellent condition & could be sold
as new

--Asking $2650--Possibly open to offers including, a trade/cash deal for an
entry level Rivendell (such as a Clem L, etc) or other bike suitable for a
casual 5'9 rider

Drive-train
--Silver cranks both captain and stoker
--Shimano Deore derailleurs with 3 x 9 gearing
--Currently set up with friction shifters, which is my preference, but I
may have indexed shifters if preferred

Brakes
--Avid brake levers with Shimano V-brakes. The rear hub will also
accommodate a 203 mm disc drag brake

Tires & Wheelset
27.5" Strong and durable, high spoke count (Cliff hangers?) rims with
Velocity hubs and Continental Double Fighter 27.5 x 2.0 tires. Note: the
27.5 wheels on this tandem make it feel surprisingly playful verses 29"
wheels.

Handlebars & saddles
--Boscomoose bars with cork grips & Brooks B-17 & B-67 saddles (would like
to keep these, but they are negotiable)

Possible shipping for ~$150 CONUS

Please shoot me a message with questions or thoughts. Thanks!-Al

26" wheels in mind. I've tried the 32R on the following bikes:

- 51cm Appaloosa (650b) - Needed to run on low-mid braze on. Could
be run on the dropout braze-on but contacts top of rear fender.
- 47cm MIT Homer (650b) - Just clears with the fender and 42mm tires
- 46cm Clem L - Perfect
- Small Gus Boots Wilsen (650b) - Not even close

I ended up getting the 33R - currently on the Hillsen - and keeping the
 32R on the Clem.
