Welcome to Brompton ownership, a black hole you pour money into. It's worse
than the racks-and-bags journey we go on for our Rivs! 

 Ash,

A Bosco can be done if you can make the reach and folded math work.

The clamp is 25.4 and the mast folds down so the reach-back juts away
from the bike. You'd have a bigger folded footprint but still crazy
 compact
relative to storing or transporting a full-size bike.

The ETT is about 60cm with no stem reach. You'd have the reach to the
flat part of the bar in the same range as stock Brom bars but the rest is
coming WAY back. You'll never sit up any straighter on a bicycle than
holding the ends of a Bosco on a Brompton! 

Re: [RBW] Bring Out The Brompton!

2021-08-03 Thread Philip Barrett
I got loose at Aliexpress today & ordered a titanium seatpost (600mm) since
the one I have is pretty gouged in places. That & the little phone holder
that mounts on the stem bolt.

My lack of self control will probably have me returning for the titanium
rear rack too!

Re: [RBW] Bring Out The Brompton!

2021-08-03 Thread rltilley
I’m only 5’ 11” with an 86 cm PBH. I have one Brompton with a standard seat
post and one with the telescoping seat post. The standard post is about perfect
for me at full extension. I use maybe an extra inch on the telescoping post.
You’d need the telescoping post and likely the H bars as well.

Re: [RBW] Bring Out The Brompton!

2021-08-03 Thread Joe Bernard
Ash,

A Bosco can be done if you can make the reach and folded math work.

The clamp is 25.4 and the mast folds down so the reach-back juts away from
the bike. You'd have a bigger folded footprint but still crazy compact
relative to storing or transporting a full-size bike.

The ETT is about 60cm with no stem reach. You'd have the reach to the flat
part of the bar in the same range as stock Brom bars but the rest is coming
WAY back. You'll never sit up any straighter on a bicycle than holding the
ends of a Bosco on a Brompton! 

Re: [RBW] Bring Out The Brompton!

2021-08-03 Thread Rick Thompson
That is a Wald 582 folding metal basket, with a Trigo adapter plate
modified to fit it to the carrier block. It is not light, but nothing on
mine is...

Mine came as the "raw lacquer", but from the factory it is really a paint
color and not just raw metal with lacquer over. I am using metal bluing
with varnish over as touch up, that is close to the color.

good enough for "art projects," which means relatively hi res photos and
manual adjustment of shutter speed, aperture, and lighting (did I get

[RBW] WTB: Modern 11speed Ultegra hub set or Open Pro wheelset

2021-08-03 Thread Andrew Turner
I figured it's worth a shot to ask, but it does seem like the hub market is
bone dry. I'm searching for some modern, 11 speed Ultegra hubs in good
condition (or new). Seems like my only other option is a seller out in
Germany on eBay.

The plan is to build these up with Open Pro rims for that dedicated
NON-tubeless easy-on/off tire install life. Velomine has exactly what I'm
looking for but only a rear wheel...and while their 105 build is perfectly
fine, I've got Ultegra everything-else so might as well keep it even. So if
someone happens to have the complete wheelset, well that would work just
fine too.

Happy riding,
Andrew

[RBW] Re: FT/FS Rivendell All Rounder size 56 - for size 58 All Rounder

The TT measurement from the Cyclefiend site does not match what a 59 should
be. I would need to see a real ST measurement to say for sure. Not a
measurement with teh saddle included.

2021-08-03 Thread Dave Grossman
Before I build my own is anyone holding some 100/135 rim brake 700c
wheelset they'd like to sell? Dynamo is a plus but not required.

[RBW] Re: FT/FS Rivendell All Rounder size 56 - for size 58 All Rounder

2021-08-03 Thread lconley
Frame size should be easy to measure - center of crank to top of seat lug.
Based on "Crank bolt to top of saddle - 30"." and what appears to be 6-1/4"
[(36-1/8) - (29-7/8] from top of seat lug to top of saddle -> 30" - 6-1/4"
= 23-3/4" = 60.3 cm.

Or another estimate
top of pedal to center of crank bolt for 175 mm crank - 175 - (15/2) =
167.5mm = 6.6"
36-1/8" - 6-1/4" - 6.6" = 23.3" = 59.1

I would say the frame is a 59 based upon the Cyclofiend chart and that it
has 26" wheels.
Note that 56cm = 22", if the bike were a 56, it would measure 22" from the
center of the crank bolt to the top of the seat lug

Note that your height is not what matters, it is your PBH. I am 6' but have
short legs and thus a short PBH - I need bikes with the TT several inches
longer than the ST.

If you really like the bike, why not just get a longer seatpost and stem,
Nitto makes 300mm seatposts (Riv only lists 250mm versions) and taller
stems also. Nitto even makes a 300mm tall lugged setback seatpost. I would
guess that it is easier to find the long seatpost and stem than a larger
frame.

The All Rounder is probably my favorite bike I've ever owned even
though it's a size too small for me, and I'd really love to have another
 in
a size that fits. As I understand it, the 58 All Rounder was the last size
to keep 26" wheels so a size 60 with 700cc wheels is not really what I'm
looking for even though it would fit. Also should point out that I am not
looking for a modern Rivendell with long chainstays and double toptube,
been there done that and it's not for me.

Frame/fork or full bike with comparable parts. Really only "want" to
trade but... If someone is determined to buy it I guess they'll let me
know. Bonus points if someone happens to know of a dormant size 58 not of
their own but can facilitate it's purchase in exchange for the acquisition
of my 56! *Point is I'm hesitant to let the bike go without a bike to
put in it's place during this pandemic bike shortage.*

Something of similar strengths but disc brake could pull me away from
it as well, Crust, Singular Peregrine, etc.

 Nitto Jaguar NJ-SP72 seat post
