Re: [RBW] hanging bikes on the wall

2021-12-09 Thread Patrick Moore
I don't know what your bike storage area looks like, but I hang mine from
hooks attached to a plank itself bolted to the studs of my garage wall. I
positioned the hooks so that they hold my longest bike so that the front
tire is about 1 foot from the ground. This means that even I, at 66 (and
3/4!! as small children like to say) and without more than average old man
upper body strength, can with relative ease hang a ~31 lb bike by its rear
wheel even while having to cantilever the upside down bike while standing
back from the wall to avoid tangling the bar with those of adjacent bikes.
(I find it much easier to hang by rear wheels, and spaced the hooks to
accommodate bars side by side.)

Again, I don't know your storage area, but perhaps if you position hooks
sufficiently low you can lift the bike to the hook?

[RBW] FS: Down sleeping bag plus some clothes

2021-12-09 Thread Shawn Granton

Hello friends! The never ending cleaning and purging of stuff continues!
Here are a few things I don’t need anymore. Interested?

   - *Prices DO NOT include shipping.* If you are interested in something,
   please include your zip code.
   - Base shipping price in the US is $5 and goes up from there.
   - Payment by PayPal preferred. Don’t do PayPal? I can invoice you if you
   have a credit card.
   - For those inside Portland, I can arrange for contactless pickup in the
North Tabor neighborhood. You will still need to pay in advance.
   - I’m generally pretty fast to respond to inquiries (so long as it’s not
too early or late in the day.) If you inquire and I respond that I do have
an item, *please pay within three hours to secure it,* otherwise it may
   go to the next person.
   - Interested? Email me at urbanadventurelea...@gmail.com

This time around it’s mostly clothing, with one sleeping bag.

   - *Kuhl “Virtuoso” merino blend t-shirt, size XL. *Still in good shape,
   no holes. 47% merino/53% poly. *$15*
   - *Smartwool half zip wool sweater, size XL*. Sporty light-mid weight
sweater, used a lot as a layer for bike touring. Overall decent except a
hole forming on the rear (see pic.) *$15*
   - *Dakine WOMEN’S mountain bike shorts, size L. *Pretty typical, though
these aren’t lined/padded. Did I mention that these are women’s shorts?
   *$20*
   - *L.L. Bean chamois flannel shirt (cotton), size L. *Nice soft and
   cozy, very thick. *$20*
   - *Pendleton lambswool V-neck vest sweater, size XL. *Great shape. *$25*
   - *Tweed-esque wool shirt jacket, size 46. *I’d say it’s about L/XL
size. Four outside pockets plus two internal pockets. Not the thickest
shirt-jacket, but when worn with a nice mid-layer, it’ll do the job on
not-that-rainy winter days in the Northwest. *$25*
   - *Mountain Hard Wear “Hibachi” 32F/0C down sleeping bag. *Uses 600-fill
water-repellant down. Can compress down to about a 10L compression bag (not
included.) You can check out full technical specs for this bag here.

I’ve

used this bag for a number of years and have regularly cleaned it and kept
it stored uncompressed, but with any down bag expect it to not be as fluffy
or hold heat as well as it used to. I’d say it’s more of a 35F/40F bag now.
Comes with storage bag plus original compression sack. *$75*

Thank you!

[RBW] Re: hanging bikes on the wall

2021-12-09 Thread Bill Lindsay
All photos of people holding their bike OVER their head have the bike
upside down. The rider is holding the bars near or at the stem, and at the
saddle. If the bike is light enough for that to be practical, then hanging
it upside down by both wheels could be the best way to get it really high

[RBW] Re: hanging bikes on the wall

2021-12-09 Thread Erik Wright
Hey Minh,

The first two things that jumped to mind are a pulley system like this

 (looks
a little too storage-y for indoor hanging imo) or a product like Da Hanger
. The
latter is my preferred indoor storage method- it has a tidy look, and
pulling the wheels to the wall keeps the bike from protruding out too far.

[RBW] hanging bikes on the wall

2021-12-09 Thread Minh
hi all, hope everyone is adjusting to winter, at least for us in the
northeast!
as its getting colder, i'm dealing with some bike maint. and one of them is
solving the bike storage for my lone QB. i've settled on hanging on the
wall, but next challenge, how do people lift the bike up high enough?
currently i can only get it up to about chest high, any tricks to get
higher? step ladder?

this is inside our apt, so i can't ropes over the rafters.

would appreciate any other ideas people have, only constraint is that i'd
like to get it off the floor, and it needs to hang parallel to the wall--so
no hanging by front wheel. thanks for any ideas!

[RBW] Re: Opinions re Roadeo colors

2021-12-09 Thread Scott Calhoun
I bought it from TPC recently (in 2021--maybe 6 months ago), hoping it was
indeed a Roadeo, but after I got it, using the serial number I confirmed
that Mark N. built it and confirmed that it wasn't a Roadeo, but somebody's
Riv custom. I rode it for maybe three days, but although it fit me and feel
really stable and was beautifully made, it felt less nimble than my Ram,
and it just wasn't what I was hoping for.

To TPCs credit, they took it back and even paid the return shipping as they
had mis-named it in their description. So it did go back up for sale
recently I suspect. Anyone on this list pick it up?

Re: [RBW] Re: A Hunq

2021-12-09 Thread Michael Williams
I believe Rivs last run of Hunqs( Green) looked like a great bike but they did
a really short run of them. The chainstay was an in between length( 49cm) of
earlier Rivs and the current longer stays. It had less BB drop ( 71mm) and a
decent stack/ reach ratio where drop bars were a little more feasible. And it
was offered in 700c and 650b in the 59cm size which was pretty neat. And
possibly( I can’t remember) no diagatube in the 59 size which turned some
people off, not me though. Another run of Hunqs would probably get a lot of
interest.-Mike

 It's a 54cm Hunq. I'm pretty sure it's Taiwan made, since it doesn't have
Waterford etched into the drop out. I've been working on this bike for 18
months to get it here, and I'm finally happy with where I've landed. The
only immediate changes might be... changing the 'tross bars to Billie
bars. It's also set up for quick swaps in case I want to use Bullmoose
 bars that day.

 Enjoy. Happy to answer questions.

[RBW] Re: Opinions re Roadeo colors

2021-12-09 Thread Kevin D norcal - santa rosa
Hey Scott, thanks for the clarification. Yeah, I saw it on TPC listed as a
Rodeo (I thought it was listed recently but maybe not). I figured it was
custom and thought maybe Waterford. I saw the fork braze-on but didn't
catch the larger tire capacity. Perhaps more like a Ramb then or even
stouter yet. Great paint either way.
curious: are you saying you bought it from TPC recently and returned it to
them? Or you bought it new from Riv and returned to Riv a while back . . .
and that it wound up at TPC later on.

[RBW] Re: Opinions re Roadeo colors

2021-12-09 Thread Scott Calhoun
I briefly owned this silver one which was offered by The Pros Closet. For
the record, it is not a Roadeo and was mis-labeled as such by TPC. It is a
Rivendell custom built by Mark Nobilette. I loved the color, but it was
build quite stout and more loaded touring oriented IMO. It was not the
light lively ride I was hoping for from a Roadeo so I returned it. It also
used long, rather than medium reach brakes so I would fit relatively huge
tires.

[RBW] WTB Sackville Saddlebag Medium Olive

2021-12-09 Thread maxcr
Hi All,

I'm looking to see if anyone has a Sackville Saddlebag Medium Olive taking
up space or that they're not using. (I know the new ones are in stock, but
I like their older closure mechanism better)

I sold mine and regret it, it's the right size / shape for my needs.

Thanks
Max

[RBW] 1987 TREK 330 ELANCE - F/F/HS/BB/BRAKES - $300 + shipping, OBO

2021-12-09 Thread Patch T
Howdy Bunch,

I have a 1987 Trek 330 Elance in cherry red that won't fit its intended
rider. Ready for a 650b conversion - a great light-tourer, commuter, or
just-ride bike. Currently listed with installed VO headset, Shimano UN55
BB, and long reach Tektro brakes, ready for a 650b conversion. Room for
38s; technically 42s fit but it's close around the chain stays.

I also have a 650b wheelset (100/126 spaced Sansin freehub; Velocity
Aerohead 650b rims) + parts enough for a complete Rivish build, if you're
interested.

*PLEASE NOTE: there is a small dent in the top tube, pictured.*

1987 TREK 330 ELANCE
 -
F/F/HS/BB/BRAKES - $300 + shipping OBO

   - 19"/47.5CM
   - red
   - Reynolds 531
   - new VO Grand Cru headset
   - new BB UN55 x 110 (I think)
   - new Tektro R559 (650b ready - clearance for 650b x 38)
   - dent in top tube, see photos

PHOTOS HERE

Thank you
Patch, NYC

Looking for an Acorn Bags handlebar bag in black waxed canvas. Interested
in the original design, not the current burrito bag style.

2021-12-09 Thread 'Gary L' via RBW Owners Bunch

I've got a 2015 grey/kidney bean 58 hunq that I bought new and I'm sure
that one was built in Taiwan. I remember cause I was talking to Grant when
I ordered it and he assured me the quality was equal to the Toyo-built
bikes. It's still a great bike - wherever it came from!

Re: [RBW] Re: Gus or Susie, am I crazy?

2021-12-09 Thread Ryan Frahm
Hey Patrick! I was actually just in ABQ over thanksgiving. Riding on 2.6”
tires now but the i36 rim helps them spread out. Having to use the i25
cliffhanger is one of the things that has me hesitating, I’m a fan of wide
rims. I’m back and forth. Should probably wait for the next Clem run. The
Gus just has so much style!
