I've become fascinated at how long this thread can go without anyone
actually specifying the size of the frame in question. Maybe we'll never
know!

Please let me know if you're interested in it... unfortunately your

[RBW] WTT: My used Fleecer Ridge for Antelope Hill

2022-04-21 Thread Nikko in Oakland
Hey there,

I have Fleecer Ridge tires on my Hunq but I'm not using it for off-road
stuff anymore and it's primarily ridden on pavement.

Anybody want to trade my used Fleecer Ridge tires for your Antelope Hill
tires? Tires have about 500 miles of use on them with plenty of life left.

Re: [RBW] Re: Who's pre-ordering an Atlantis next week?

2022-04-21 Thread Thomas Sibley
I ordered a 59 yesterday ( that rainbow bar), chomping at the bit
right after noon worried it would sell out (unfounded I guess). Super
excited! I've bought lots of parts and gear from Riv for years and years
but never an actual bicycle. I hope I like it; it seems likely I will.
Really regretting that I didn't try harder to make a visit over to Riv
when I was briefly down in La Honda in October.

The other Riv frames haven't been too attractive to me in comparison to
my long-time trusty steed, a Surly Cross-Check which I've continually
refined into a great all-rounder bike for me over the past 12 years.
Asking myself "Do I really need a new single?" always concluded in "Not
really." But the Atlantis got my attention a while back around the same
time it felt like my more recent refinements of the Cross-Check were
fighting its geometry. On the Atlantis, I'm looking forward to getting
even more upright, switching to a quill stem, running wider tires than
the Cross-Check can accommodate with fenders (38s from Compass, er, Rene
Herse), experiencing longer chainstays, having All The Braze-ons, and so
on. Will first build it up using a mix a spare parts I have on hand,
stolen parts from my Cross-Check, and new parts just for it, and see
where it goes from there. My brain is definitely vibrating with the
(rare to me) new bike excitement and not just any new bike, but a Riv!

Thomas in Seattle

P.S. Hello! I just learned about (and joined) this list two days ago
when researching more about the Atlantis. I think I'll stay a while.

Hi Nick,

I listed my (old short chain stay geo) Sam 58 a few days ago - it's still
up for sale:
https://groups.google.com/u/1/g/rbw-owners-bunch/c/T1BxuItl5W8/m/4U7L6p4_BQAJ

Please let me know if you're interested in it... unfortunately your
Atlantis is too small for me, so it would only work if you find a buyer for
it.

[RBW] Re: Who's pre-ordering an Atlantis next week?

2022-04-21 Thread CJ
Dave, thanks for the insight. I would have expected the opposite, as the
Atlantis has a 1 degree slacker head tube angle. It does have a shorter
effective top tube, so that may have a greater effect.

The biggest question for me is if the 53cm Atlantis would have toe overlap
with fat tires or fenders. For an off-pavement bicycle, toe overlap is a
deal breaker for me.

In the end, I talked myself out of the Atlantis. For now, haha. I do see
that there are some 53s still available...

[RBW] Re: Who's pre-ordering an Atlantis next week?

2022-04-21 Thread Jim Whorton
I ordered a 55 frame. It is all I can do to be ending these sentences with
periods instead of strings of exclamation points. I'm stoked, I'm
enthused, I'm maintaining a calm exterior while selecting parts one by
one. I've got a Clem H I bought complete, much modified now with guidance
from this forum. The Atlantis will be my first time building a bike up
from a new frame. I'm going to go slwww and enjoy it too.

I have been wanting this bike for years and was doubtful I'd be able to get
it, as fast as the Riv frames have been selling out lately. And I see now
there are still Atlantis frames available, a day later, in every size
EXCEPT the 55. Below is proof that the 55s sold out in under an hour.

[RBW] Re: Who's pre-ordering an Atlantis next week?

2022-04-21 Thread Kirke Campbell
Does anyone know if they are offering an 26" wheel Atlantis this time
around? Current listing shows 50cm as the smallest size, but description
below mentions a 47cm, which I think was the 26" version. Obviously, Riv
goes by PBH but are there any geo charts out there or does anyone have top
tube length on the 47/50/53cm sizes?

[RBW] Bought an at Atlantis. Afraid it's too small.

2022-04-21 Thread 'N Mehring' via RBW Owners Bunch
Hi All, Got an Atlantis last year and used my pbh as a reference but think
I undersized. Long torso, short leg problem. I am looking to upsize.
Anybody interested in swapping? Im open to hillbornes in a larger size than
55 too. I have a longer wheelbase 2019/20 version. I feel that i would
benifit from a fit persoective from a bike with drop bars. Cheers!

Also, Minh - there is a bike lane all the way down Bedford from Eastern
Parkway to where it ends at Emmons. And then the Jamaica Bay Greenway
around to Floyd Bennett and across the Marine Parkway Bridge.

[RBW] Re: Who's pre-ordering an Atlantis next week?

2022-04-21 Thread DJC
Hi Chris,

I have both a 52cm Clem H and a 53cm Atlantis (v.3). While they share the
long wheelbase and relaxed geometry, they're very different bikes. The Clem
leans heavily toward an mid-80s MTB, but with greater stability and
comfort. The Atlantis "feels" more nimble and better suited to all-a-round
riding. I use both for commuting, but I'd choose the Atlantis as my touring
rig and use the Clem H for off-road adventuring.
Regarding wheels, I built up Velocity Cliffhangers for both bikes.

Cheers,
Dave

[RBW] Re: frame timeline?

2022-04-21 Thread Wally Estrella
Update - Hillibikes and Atlantis framesWe found out the Hillibike boat
won't reach Oakland until the 28th, so we'll only be able to start shipping
frames and building bikes in early May. It usually takes about a week and a
half from the time the boat arrives to when the container arrives here.
Everybody who has a frame on order has been so patient and understanding,
so thank you for that. We're in the final stretch of the wait now.

Leah, "bottom bracket lug" is perfectly descriptive, but I think the
term you'll see in print when lugs are being discussed is "bottom bracket

fillet brazed frame is also called a "bottom bracket shell". Either way,
your "bottom bracket lug" identifies what you are talking about just fine

Thanks for this, Mark; if I see a pair of the 26" Gatorskins on sale I may
just try them.

[RBW] FS: 650B Wheelset (Alex/Deore/Novatec)

2022-04-21 Thread Johnny Alien
I am selling the wheelset I currently have on my Clem. The front is
essentially new (very very low miles) and is the stock wheel on current
Clems which is the Alex rim and silver Novatec hub. The rear wheel is the
older Clem wheel with the same Alex rim but a silver Deore hub vs the
Novatec. The Deore runs a bit quieter than the Novatec which is why i
initially kept this rear wheel. It also have the multi color nipples which
I like. Very low miles on this wheel as well but not quite as low as the
front (which is under 100). I will include the cassette which is (like the
wheel itself) low miles. 11-36 shimano compatible. $200 shipped anywhere
relatively close to the east side of the USA. Maybe a few dollars more if
you need it shipped to the other side.

I could probably do next Wednesday. Alan, let me know if you need a
wheelset for the new Chev. I have a fairly new Alex Adventurer 2 set with a
Shimano dynamo up front and Deore on the rear. Currently just sitting in
the closet. Handbuilt by Honey Wheels in Brooklyn.

Sure, we can do later on Wednesday. The last meetup was about 3 years ago, I
think. Maybe more. We were just a handful, and in fact I’ve bought and sold a
few small items with a couple of them…don’t me ask names! We could each bring a
mental list of things we want to either buy or sell, could be fun.

Working on the Cheviot. See you next week! Come one come all.

Here’s an idea- a meet up at the Kissena Velodrome and some cruising
around the trails that surround it. Would be fun to get in some races with
baskets and saddlesacks flying around. Plus, Queens is neutral territory
