Re: [RBW] Dynamo Wiring inside the Fork and Frame?

2022-11-20 Thread Luke Hendrickson
I’ve been tempted to do the same thing. I’ve decided to instead purchase a
Pass & Stow rack which allows for internal routing.

Re: [RBW] Dynamo Wiring inside the Fork and Frame?

2022-11-20 Thread Joe Mullins
I’ve done it a few times and used a Dremmel to enlarge the hole near the
dropout. No matter how much I tried to run the wire without enlarging the hole,
I failed. I ended up soldering the “fishing” wire to the cable and pulling it
from bottom to top.Took me losing the cable several times mid fork and having
to re-fish to come up with that method. Learn from my hours of mistakes!
Literally hours.

[RBW] FS: "Estate Sale" of components and gear, part deux

2022-11-20 Thread esoterica etc

Howdy again,

Here’s part two of my massive “estate sale”, in order to clear everything
out for my family’s upcoming cross-Pacific move in the spring. Big thanks
to those who’ve already bought stuff; you’re making my life easier one
shipped box at a time.

The prices listed do not include shipping, but I’ll be using Pirateship.com
and Bikeflights to ship, and I’ve got boxes of all
shapes and sizes and a postage scale, so I can find you the best rates to
ship your stuff. *PayPal, money order, or cash accepted for payment*. If
you’d like more pics or info about any of the items, please reach out; I’m
usually pretty quick about getting back to you. To make it easier and
quicker for me to get you an accurate shipping quote, please include your
address (or zip code at the very least) with your inquiries. Local pickup
in Raleigh, NC for those of you nearby. The more things you buy, the more
we can wheel and deal! Thanks for looking and have a great week!

[RBW] Re: FS: "Estate Sale" of components and gear, part I

2022-11-20 Thread esoterica etc

Happy Sunday everyone,

Just posting a weekend update with a current list of what's still
available, and a few price drops. Be sure to also check out my "estate
sale" part deux, there's much more stuff on there. And the shipping so far
has been pretty reasonable, with most packages being in the $8-10 range.
Thanks for looking and have a great weekend!

[RBW] Re: Knee Replacement

2022-11-20 Thread 'peech1...@yahoo.com' via RBW Owners Bunch
I had TKA a couple of years back and was back on a bike in about a month.
Started very slow, low miles on flat ground. I was up to 15 miles fairly
quickly. I know that the miles on the bike before surgery really was of
help post surgery. Everyone is different so consult with your surgeon and
physical therapist. I'm very happy I had the knee replaced. Tim

Re: [RBW] Ride Report: Hawksbill Slope cabin overnighter

2022-11-20 Thread Brian Turner
Excellent ride report, as always Eric! I appreciate the little details you
choose to include. As a fellow swoopy hillibike rider, I am curious a bit
about your companion’s setup on his Susie and his experience. Maybe you can
convince him to share his perspective too. It would be really cool to have
two different perspectives and setups from the same ride!

I am right there with you on the aversion to drinking from plastic these
days. Something has changed with me these past few years where I have
started phasing out all my plastic drinking containers because when I use
them, I seem to strongly taste the plastic and it really turns me off. I
don’t think it is related to COVID or anything because to my knowledge I
still have not been infected by it. But something has definitely changed,
and as a result I’ve switched to all-stainless or titanium drinking
vessels. The only pass I give is to my trusty Aeropress, because the coffee
it makes is just too damn good!

It's always easy to overpack, or at least feel like you did when you're
pedaling up a hill. I wouldn't say your pack list is overly excessive
 tho,
it looks like everything fit in your bags just fine, which is a plus. I'm
tend to overflow my bags which are slightly smaller than yours on
overnighters, but I'm usually glad I have everything that I packed. On a
recent overnighter I took a thicker, better R-value sleeping pad and that
helped me sleep much better. I also tried not to over-hydrate, which in
the past I think I did often, especially later in the day. This time
paying attention to when I was actually thirsty, not just drinking a lot
 to
"stay hydrated". This NPR Life Kit
 busts some water drinking
myths and was helpful for me. A "sport top" on your Kleen Kanteen may be
helpful for sipping while riding, and maybe a bottom downtube bottle cage
to get some water weight lower down. I ride with a front rando bag on my
bike most of the time, which maybe acclimates me to having some weight up
front on trips. Being soaked in sweat on a cold day is never fun either,
maybe too much wool while climbing? Glad you were able to get comfy with
the fire tho. I might need to check out that camp pillow before next
season. Makes me want to try a cold weather trip!

[RBW] Re: Knee Replacement

2022-11-20 Thread LyleBogart{AT}gmail.com
I'm a PT with about 16 years experience. I treat many folks post-op single
or double knee replacement. You should get back to cycling without concern
or restriction in 3-4 months (you can push it earlier, but most folks find
that the resulting inflammation is not worth it).
A couple of points, in response to some of the other responses you've
received: Yes, folks do sometimes get both knees done at once. The early
days of rehab can be pretty unpleasant as you haven't a non-surgical leg to
stand on. That phase passes pretty quickly. I have seen the interesting
outcomes in some folks who've had both replaced at the same time in which
one knee turns out better than the other knee. No idea why this happens,
but it does.
As for the other folks in this thread with grumpy knees, one of the most
important things you can do is keep your lateral hips and glutes strong.
Exercises like resisted clamshells and prone hip extensions/abductions are
key. Your knees will be happier. And for those of you who are bone-on-bone,
you can forestall replacements if you keep the glutes and lateral hips good
and strong.

Good luck! Have fun!

Re: [RBW] Knee Replacement

2022-11-20 Thread Richard Borneman
A little backstory about my knee. I'm 70, played football, basketball and
baseball when I was young. Shredded my MCL and tore my meniscus in 1976.
Had some old school surgery with the 10" incision. Started riding the bike
seriously for rehab afterward. All good till around 20 years ago. Started
having problems, got it scoped out to fix a tear in meniscus.
No problem for 10 years or so and then started having serious pain during
long bike rides. Used to do 5 or 6 century rides a year but after the 60
mile mark it felt like somebody was sticking an ice pick in my knee every
revolution of the cranks. Lived with it for 5 years, stopped doing long
rides, a metric century is my limit.
Back to doctor, another procedure, another tear cleaned up. Doc told me
then there wasn't much left to work with.
I've had the rooster juice injection twice, first time helped for a year,
second time, no change. Had cortisone injections a couple times. Feels like
a new knee for a week or two then it wears off.
Now, I can ride my bike short distance, I do a 9 mile commute to work when
the weather is good. Knee feels good after a ride. It is sore and stiff
when I walk around and swells up if I walk any distance.
My doctor wants me to try the rooster juice again. I guess I will. I am
getting a big addition built on my garage and I am going to do the siding,
windows and trim. Hopefully before the weather gets too cold. I will have
to climb up a ladder and scaffold to do it. If I can.
If I get the knee done I'm thinking about doing it in February. That month
sucks. Weather is usually nasty,, hunting season is over fish are hunkered
down. Just not much going on.
Getting old sucks. Beats the alternative though.
Richard
