I'm glad that you enjoyed watching the video!
I liked the blog post you shared very much as well. It's been always fun to
read his blog posts.

Get some nice healing on your Clem and have a nice weekend:)

 Hello all!

This is my first post of 2023, I hope you are having good rides!

Last month I happened to have an opportunity to make subtitles for Blue
Lug’s YouTube channel and now the “Rivendell Chart” video is English
 subtitled!

Let me tell you how it happened. First of all, When I finished watching
the video I felt that “oh this video should be shared with English
 speaking
Rivendell fans(means this "RBW Owners Bunch) too” so I started translating
 the video briefly.

Then I found someone commented that “Subtitles please!” and Blue Lug
replied “we’d love to but at the moment we are too busy so we need a
 help”.
I thought that “why don’t I do that?”

It took me a week to complete subtitling between my work, playing with
my baby, feeding my baby, putting my baby to sleep, sleeping with my baby,
chatting with my wife and commuting by my Platypus.

It was a really fun work to do related to not only the things I’m
passionate about which are languages and bicycles but also favourite
 people
who are Rivendell and Blue Lug!

I would be very happy that if I could be a help for Rivendell and Blue
Lug. Ultimately I hope people who watch the subtitled video will find how
Rivendell bicycles are amazing even better than before, that would be
 amazing.

2023-02-04 Thread Luke Hendrickson
This is why I’ve just opted for the five rail rack from Pass & Stow: 25lbs
or less suggested, rated to 50lbs, and can handle 200lbs. I’ll *never* need
all that it can offer tbh.

[RBW] Bicycle Film Festival

2023-02-04 Thread Bicycle Belle Ding Ding!
I am deep in the throes of missing my bike. March is feeling like a long
ways away and I have stopped looking at my Rivendells as I pass them by.
It’s just too sad.

So instead, I have taken to watching the Bicycle Film Festival. I stumbled
across that account on Instagram and was intrigued. I bought my “ticket”
and have been in raptures on my couch, streaming the beautiful videography
and immersing myself in the stories. These stories are beautifully done,
and the come from around the globe. Most of us here probably know Bicycle
Nomad - his story of following the path of the Buffalo Soldiers Bicycle
Corps (the all-black 25th infantry bicycle regiment that set out to test
the effectiveness of moving troops by bicycle) - is featured in Program 4.
You will go to NYC when the BMX’ers take to the streets in a mass “ride
out” called EBRO. You will go to Switzerland and see if a road racer can
win her first gravel race. We will make fun of spandex. Watch a 74 year old
mountain biker rip it up in Utah. And so on.

Choose how much you’d like to pay and get your access via email. It’s good
until sometime in Feb. And post here if you watch it - I’ll get even more
enjoyment out of this knowing that you did.

Re: [RBW] Re: Nitto 32F Rack weight limit?

2023-02-04 Thread Joe Bernard
This is why Riv got Nitto to make a Basket Rack. They kinda backed
themselves into a world of riders putting big loads in a big basket on a
little rack on the if-the-wheel-locks-up-things-get-ugly-fast end of the
bike and...you don't want that.

I tried it, I hated the way it affected the steering, I run most of my load
on the back now. My recommendation is to keep basket loads in the range of
weight you would normally allow a bar bag to run. And use that strap.

Re: [RBW] Re: Blue Lug / Nitto strut light mount hack

2023-02-04 Thread Brian Turner
You’re right, Peter. In fact, the Blue Lug page that talks about this “hack” shows them using it to mount a front Koma light (clear lens). One thing to note; the Koma light mounting brackets are all M5, rather than the M6 standard for most dyno headlights. That’s why this tab works so well - one hole is large enough for the daruma bolt diameter, and the smaller tab holes are perfect for M5 bolts. On Feb 4, 2023, at 4:05 PM, Peter Adler wrote:I don't see any reason it couldn't be used to mount a headlight the same way, if you've got a handlebar bag rack with Nitto-sized struts. I don't see any reason it couldn't be used to mount a headlight the same
way, if you've got a handlebar bag rack with Nitto-sized struts. If you
don't want to hacksaw the unneeded extra tab off, you can rotate the mount

Re: [RBW] Re: Nitto 32F Rack weight limit?

2023-02-04 Thread Patrick Moore
I've been puzzled by Nitto's and consequently Rivendell's -- yes, absurdly
low -- weight limits for racks that are sold as the top in design and
quality and price. I see that the Riv product copy instructs users to use
the strap right after stating the 2 kg weight limit for this $160 rack. The
logical response to this would be to say, "Hell no!" and buy something else.

Now I don't believe that Nitto products are merely precious and expensive
and useless bling; I'm very familiar with Nitto stems, seatposts, and bars.
But I have chosen Tubus racks because they offer very generous weight
limits -- 44 lb for the 12 oz Tubus Fly (chromo; my ss one -- Luna -- is a
wee bit heavier and with a slightly lower limit), and I've used several
over thousands of miles under sometimes limit-pushing (even exceeding)
loads with no problem; short shopping trips, true, but a lot of them and
with heavy loads. Of course, for truly expensive rack bling, you could
choose the titanium GBP386 Airy at 8 oz and rated for 66 lb!

Yes. Spare daruma bolts are key. I think if you’re a Nitto rack user, it’s always a good idea to have a couple of these laying around as spare… but also if you have an unused Nitto rack laying around in your parts bin.On Feb 4, 2023, at 1:40 PM, J wrote:Looks nice. [RBW] Re: English subtitles for Blue Lug's video

2023-02-04 Thread Slin
Masa - Thanks for making the subtitles! My favorite part was also the
'healing' part too.

Earlier in the video they mention when they first became Riv Dealers they
felt like they had to learn how to build up Riv's (and they sure did!). It
reminded me of one of Blue Lug's recent blog posts breaking down how they
wrap handlebar grips on Riv's, the 'Grant Wrap'

There's some great cockpit detail shots here:
https://bluelug.com/blog/kamiuma/137628/

- Slin
Now off to get some healing on my Clem! Speaking of which, I also had my
idea of where a Clem fit change a lot over the years too.

[RBW] Re: Nitto 32F Rack weight limit?

2023-02-04 Thread Brian McDermott
I've always thought the "weight limit" on that rack was absurdly low,
especially for such an expensive item. If you put a bag or basket on it,
there's half of the weight capacity taken up already. They just put that
very conservative rating on it so that you don't load it up with 25 lbs of
crap. I would say 15 is safe, and really, who would want that much weight
that high anyway?

[RBW] Re: Roaduno catnip

2023-02-04 Thread iamkeith
Keep in mind that, at some point after Grant revealed that purple/orange
one, Will said that it was basically irrelevant because they were making so
many changes.

Does any one have a link to a picture of a fully built Roaduno? I was
looking for one the other day and the closest I could find was the pics of
 the three frames without paint.

 Thanks!

Re: [RBW] Re: Bombadil and Hunqapillar origins: The definitive thread

2023-02-04 Thread Garth

On Friday, February 3, 2023 at 4:28:29 PM UTC-5 Mackenzy Albright wrote:
One thing i've been curious about is the geometry changes over time.

It seems the Hunqapillars were generally a bit shorter TT's and relatively
traditional geometry while the Bombadils ran long (I'm assuming meant more
for non drops?). Eventually all Rivendells started getting lnger and
more swept back bar designed. The Hunqapillars took over the Bombadils in
terms of production. Which is funny because I was always under the
impression hunqs were cheaper bombas, but the top tubes have always from
what i've seen been longer on the bombas.

It seems to me the 58 hunqs and bombas were around 61-62 and the 60 (?)
were 62-64? is this correct? It seems the charts vary as well as peoples
physical measurements (especially with the sloping tubes)

Has anyone ridden or tried out different length variations or a hunqapillar
and a bombadil in terms of drop bar oriented or swept back oriented
designs?

Mackenzey, You have it correct in that the Bombas were a bit longer in
reach and front-center overall. There's no direct comparing them as the
frame sizes were never the same, save the 48cm. If the H frames were an
equal to or greater than the B in terms of stack, reach and f-c I would
have purchased one, but they were not. Even the 62 H didn't have the
reach/f-c of 60 B.The 60 B from the original batch is dimensionally "just
right" for me.

The frames in mass didn't go looong-er in the font end until the 2019 Clem
update. Well, not all of them did, not the road bikes. But all the others
went much longer than previous. As if everyone wants or needs to ride with
a vertical posture ? (Rhetorically) Hah hah certainly
not...(Me,We,Thee) ! To me the whole lengthening of the bikes is from the
belief in the vertical posture(ride like a horseman) thing and long
chainstays. Having the rear end long, without the front long, and sitting
vertically, well I could sense that as being a bit unbalanced feeling.
(opinion here) Well gee, the vertical benefit thing is assumptive to begin
with so there is no cure/compensation for it. If the stays weren't so
long the front end wouldn't need to be so long either, like how the Bomba
is. Of course one can still ride posture-vertical on any bike if that's
your thing, you certainly don't need surfboard length to do it.

In regards to decals mine has none, as it had the original font style that
to me, just didn't fit the bike. I prefer no brandings/names of frames
anyways. Create a cool looking(subjective, I know) small "LaBomba" or "Mad
Bomba" sticker and maybe I'd consider it ((( laughing ))). The
frame/form speaks for itself though and doesn't need anything more.
