[RBW] Re: WTB - 51 Appaloosa or 51 Hillborne - or possibly 55 Cheviot

2018-11-03 Thread C Sharp
FWIW, I’m a guy with an 82 PBH (stubby legs, long torso) and I have a 55cm 2009
Sam. I believe the TT for that model year was something like 57 or 57.5 (don’t
feel like looking it up). The bike definitely fits and is a joy to ride, but it
does feel a bit long for me. Just saying a 55 might be worth a try, esp. if
she’s going to set it up with upright bars.

Lovely ride report, Leah! Thanks for sharing! I echo Doug's sentiments --
glad to know that someone like Ethan gets to enjoy such a bike!

[RBW] Re: Homer Hilsen stolen in San Francisco

2018-04-05 Thread C Sharp
Edwin,

Several things jump out at me. Nothing about this posting suggests that the
seller knows about and appreciates the bike he’s selling is a Rivendell — which
is what you’d expect if he had ever spent $3000 on it. Strange color in the
photos at the very least, but also non-drive side photos and no close ups of
components. Super generic ad that sounds like someone imitating a bike
salesman. Bad formatting.

Ultimately, just a hunch, but a lead that seems worth investigating.

Best,
Cameron

Looking back over Edwin’s comment, I realize that e/ correct plus the size is
noted as 56cm. Apologies to the OP of the CL for my disparagement of his ad and
to the OP of this post for a false alarm.

Hi Tom,

Is this your bike? This CL ad seems fishy to me.

717 Cyclery! They’re a Riv dealer not too far from Prospect Park that leads
multi-day bike camping tours and specializes in touring, off-road, and
adventure bikes. Really great guys who do a lot to foster a cycling community.

[RBW] Who rides an off-roadish Sam?

2018-02-01 Thread C Sharp
I have a green canti Sam set up with Alba’s and 38mm Paselas that I rode all
throughout Golden Gate Park after I got it. It definitely felt like
“underbiking” at some points, but I had trouble discerning whether that was due
to my set up or to my poor trail skills :) . Either way, I had a blast. I’ve
ridden it on some more california mountain climbs up fire roads, but agree that
anything more gravelly or rooty than that gets tough.
