[RBW] Re: Roadini heavy?

2022-01-30 Thread CapNMike
Hi Ezra,
I have a 61 cm Roadini and I would say that this bike feels more stiff and
responsive to steering than my AHH. I have 33 mm tires on the Roadini and
38 mm on the AHH so that probably contributes. I ride the Roadini on
pavement, gravel and trails without hesitation. I live in Michigan so if
you are near Lansing and the roads clear you are welcome to take it for a
spin.

[RBW] WTB: Nitto HiRiser Threadless Stem 135mm

2021-11-15 Thread CapNMike
Hello,
I am looking for a Nitto HiRiser Threadless Stem (CR 61) in 135mm length
for handlebar conversion on a tandem and Riv has been sold out of all but
the shortest lengths for some time. Is there a chance that someone has one
that they are not using and would be willing to sell?

https://www.rivbike.com/products/nitto-hiriser-25-4-1-1-8-threadless-stem-16252

Long shot here but would alternatively be interested in the Tosco Bullmoose
style handle bar as this would eliminate need for a stem,

https://www.rivbike.com/products/handlebar-tosco-bar-1?variant=39285842772079

Thanks all,

Mike

Mike, I love the photos and your Atlantis build. I have a Waterford
Atlantis and hoping to add metal fenders. Can you share the size of your
fenders and tires? I'm currently running 700x55 tires and clearance
doesn't allow fenders.

Cheers,

Mike

[RBW] Re: 57 vs 61 Roadini

2018-05-21 Thread CapNMike

Hello Dave,

I think we are close to the same size. I am 6' 1" ,my PBH is 90.5 cm and my
saddle height is 77 cm. I chose a 61 cm Roadini. I have about 9 cm of seat
post showing. I went with 48 cm Nitto Noodles and a 9 cm stem.

I have Jack Brown Green tires on A23 rims. I haven't measured the tires
since mounting them so am not certain of the actual size but there is room.
I have Tektro Brakes, the 539 model, I think. I will need a different brake
option if I decide to go with a wider tire. I seem to recall someone
mentioning that they used center pull brakes and were able to fit 38 mm
Compass tires and I may try that in the future as I am quite please with
the Barlow Pass tires on my AHH.

I set the bike up as a single speed with a WI ENO Eccentric hub build by
Rich at Rivendell. I have a DOS 16/19 freewheel on one side and a 16 tooth
fixed gear on the flip side. I don't have many miles on the fixed gear as I
haven't quite gotten used to it.

If I can offer any other measurements please let me know. If you live near
Lansing, Michigan I am happy to let you take it for a test ride.

Please excuse the quality of the photos. I took them in the rain after work
today.

-Best of luck,

Mike

[RBW] Roadini Build Suggestions

2018-02-06 Thread CapNMike
I have a Roadini frame that I am hoping to build up as an uncomplicated
bike such as a 1x8 or a single speed.

The way I see it my single speed options are to use a White Industries ENO
hub or a chain tensioner. I've noted a lot of attention in the BLUG on
single speeds, 2 x 1 speeds and a 1 x 3 speed.

I'm looking for experiences and advice regarding the WI ENO hub vs a chain
tensioner (either a purpose built one or a repurposed rear derailleur).

I like the simplicity of the ENO hub but also like the idea of using a
standard hub should I later decide to convert to multigear. Does a chain
tensioner distract from the single speed experience? I get that the ENO hub
would offer a fixed gear option but are the two options otherwise similar.

Thanks,

Mike

[RBW] Re: SKS p65 mudflap suggestions

2015-03-15 Thread CapNMike

 Hi Nathan,

I replaced the black rubber mud flaps on P45 Longboard fenders this week.
I live in an Amish community and rode my AHH to the local harness shop.
Using the rubber mud flaps as a template the proprietor cut leather mud
flaps out of scrap leather and dyed them to match the color of my Brooks
Saddle (honey). He actually made 3 mud flaps and let me select the two that
most closely matched my saddle. His wife suggested that he add the
remaining one his own bicycle as they were impressed that I was able
to stay clean and dry despite the 2-3 miles trek down muddy gravel roads
leading to the shop. You might have luck with a harness shop or cobbler
near your home.

Loving the warm weather,
