[RBW] Best Clem rack/trunk sack-type bag combo?
I mounted a Clem rack on the rear of my new Rosco Bubbe and it fits and looks great. I am now in search of a large trunk sack type bag to mount on it. Riv seems to have only one current bag on their site that would match what I want, but sadly it is sold out. I ordered a Pletscher rear bag from Germany that I thought would work well only to find once it arrived that the bag with its mounting hardware won’t fit. Is anyone using a Clem rack/trunk bag combo that's working well for you? Doug Magney St Paul MN -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Days like this acclimate us for Autumn!
Great photos Patrick, thanks for sharing. I need to get out for more rides like this. I heard of a chance of some snow in the higher elevations this weekend, any signs in your area? My Northern Minnesota area is starting to see nighttime lows in the 40s now but no snow likely until October. My Hunq could use a good gravel grinder workout. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: Cheviot sizing help
With a PBH somewhere in the 91.5-92 cm range, I had the same questions when I bought my Hunq and AHH. I decided to go with the larger frame (62 and 65 respectively) in both cases and do not regret the decisions. Adjustments to effective TT length can be made up or compensated for in saddle position and stem reach. For most riders, the Riv geometry charts and PBH recommendations will not lead you astray. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: Did you?
My Hunqapillar with Albas and my Hilsen with Noodles have the same TT length, 62.5. Hunq has a tallux 12, the Hilsen has a tallux 9 and they both seem to have pretty close to perfect reach for me. [RBW] Re: Some details on the midwest Riv and Country Bike Rally
I'll be driving from St Paul to Preston on Friday afternoon and riding from there to Forestville to camp for the night. I'll break camp Sunday AM and ride back to Preston to drop off the camping gear and ride for the day. Returning to St Paul late Sunday afternoon when the rally is over. I have room for one other bike, rider and their gear if anyone is interested. We will be following the general course, if not the exact route, of the Almanzo 100, over two days of riding. Almanzo cue sheets, last I checked, were available for download. The Almanzo course is mostly gravel, which can be highly variable between smooth and pavement-like to gnarly loose gravel with potholes. The terrain is quite hilly by Midwestern standards, but splitting the route into 2 days and taking a leisurely pace should make it less of an ordeal. Weather, as always, will be a factor. It's certain that bikes will get dirty, and possible that rocks will chip the paint. That's life. We will ride as a group and regroup as needed when we get separated by hills or whatever. That said, this is a ride at your own risk situation. Any participant is free to opt out for any reason, but there is no support car to pick you up if that happens. Hopefully we can support each other and all have a good ride without incident. But stuff happens, and every rider should accept the inherent risks and have some kind of backup plan. We will pass through a couple small towns where we may be able to eat in cafes and get groceries. But for the most part, plan to have the day's food/water on the bike. Re: [RBW] any metal fenders that will fit 700/42c tires
Another option is the VO Zeppelins, http://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/accessories/fenders/fender-sets/vo-polished-52mm-zeppelin-fenders-700c.html I used them with 700 x 47 Schwalbe Marathons (about 44 mm actual) on a Cross-Check, worked pretty well. The Honjo's I posted are all for 650B. Not at all sure if they'll fit. Sorry about that. There is another issue, one I encountered with mounting those Honjos on my Saluki: not all bikes have chain stays that will properly fit a 42mm wide tire. In my case, I had to cut the portion of the fender that fit through the chain stays at the bridge to make them fit. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: New AHH build drivetrain problem
My concern is sinking time, effort and cash into a rear wheel that I'm not in love with. Digging into the freehub myself to try to solve this issue is beyond my skill level and comfort zone. I brought the wheel in to Jim and Mark at Hiawatha Cyclery a while back to inquire about putting in a longer axle and spacers to get it up to 135. Mark's advice was to see how it works with spacers outboard of the locknuts before deciding to pull the hub apart and replace the axle. Now with the discovery of the wiggling cassette issue, I'm thinking it might be best to cut my losses and invest in a wheel that'll be a lasting solution. Bottom line is I really want to love this Hilsen and I intended this 105 wheelset only as starter components. Jim, I'll bring the bike in to the shop tomorrow afternoon and we can discuss it more. [RBW] New AHH build drivetrain problem
Submitted for your consideration: a crunchy drivetrain problem on my new Hilsen build. I’m experiencing some auto-shifting and cog skipping when going uphill, pedaling hard or pedaling out of the saddle. I’d appreciate the group’s suggestions for a solution. Frame: 65 AHH, Waterford, 135 spacing, 1 TT, new Crank: Sugino XD2 road double 48-34 BB: Shimano UN-54, 110 mm Shifters: Silvers on bar ends RD: Shimano LX, low normal Rims: Sun CR-18, 36 hole Rear hub: Shimano 105, 130 spacing, a 1.5 mm spacer added to each side Cassette: SRAM 8 speed, 11-32 Chain: SRAM 7-8 speed, new Components not indicated as new have maybe 200 mi. of use on a previous bike of mine. Me: 6’3”, PBH 92, 265 lbs. What I’ve tried: Grease on BB cable guide, tightening rear QR skewer more. No luck so far. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: New AHH build drivetrain problem
Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. Got home from work today and started getting my fingers greasy looking into it with your generously offered wisdom. As it turns out, when I removed the wheel and examined the cluster there was a small but noticeable amount of wiggle per Cyclofiend Jim's suggestion. The lockring was tight as could be so I'm thinking it's a loose free hub problem. I also want to check out Rene's suggestion of a misaligned derailleur hanger and Will's adjustment screw idea. Not sure if I will pursue repair of the 105 hub -- I think I'd rather put the $ into a new wheel that will last me a decade or two. Thinking about a White Industries MI5 hub and a Dyad rim. Re: [RBW] Good commute on the Hillborne
I was eyeing the Little Big Bens as well for my new AHH build but decided to try the Vittoria Randonneur Hypers (mentioned in an earlier thread here re: wide 700c supple tires) instead. Got the 700 x 38s, about 37 mm actual on Sun CR18 rims. They look a lot like Marathon Supremes. I'm aiming for a maiden voyage for the Hilsen on Sunday, we'll see. BTW, meant to say the creamy blue looked much BETTER in person than in web photos. Re: [RBW] Hunq and Hilsen on Ebay
I'm 6-3 with a PBH of 92 and my 62 Hunq fits perfectly for my tastes. With standard Schwalbe Marathons the measured stand over is 90 cm. I have at least an inch of stand over clearance wearing shoes. Some riders want more clearance, and others who might want to use their Hunq as a rough stuff mountain/single track bike with knobby tires want a smaller frame as well. RBW typically advises to go with a larger frame if in doubt. I haven't regretted that advice for a moment. I'd totally go for the custom blue ebay Hunq if I didn't have one already. Too bad that Hilsen wasn't a 65... -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group.
