Re: [RBW] Re: Is an Atlantis Worth It?

2024-05-22 Thread Neale S.
Max - if you've been yearning for an Atlantis, you probably won't *regret*
getting one. I think it will feel like an upgrade over an 80s mtb
conversion, mostly in the advantage of a longer head tube and sloping top
tube making it easier to get the bars to a comfortable position. I do
think a lot of the other bikes in Riv's lineup are also worth a look as
others have mentioned. I own the current-gen Atlantis and it's very
capable, but it's also almost identical to the Appaloosa, and both are on
the more stout/cargo-capable side of the lineup. They also might not have
any new frames in stock any time soon. A clem could be a very cool
all-rounder, the platypus has some kind of magical, irrational appeal that
exceeds the sum of its parts, the sam and homer are also worth a look.
Happy to answer any questions about my Atlantis if you have them.

Ted - it was the Rincon Red Box road the entire way. Puts you out on 39 a
little above the reservoir. My first time doing anything in that area. It
was tough but none of the grade or surfaces were unreasonable - just long
and a lot of climbing.

One reason to put some weight on the front of the bike is that all of your

 SAM BUILD
After purchasing parts last week, I set this bike up as a 2x8 flat bar
build with Swift Industries bags and a Wald basket. This is will be for
biking with family, getting in fitness rides, doing grocery shopping,
coffee outside vibes, and running errands around town. Heckmaybe even
 some fenders and a kickstand.

 LEO BUILD
This will be a 3x8 drop bar build set up for 40-60ish mile road rides
on the weekend. It'll use an old set of OpenPro/Ultegra with some
Panaracers Pasellas. In terms of luggage, it'll get a Swift Industries
Kestral mounted to a Velo Orange decalleur and a tool roll under the
saddle. Might be cool as a Rando bike but free time in the saddle is
limited at this point in my life.

Please stay tuned if you have any interest in seeing a comfy road build
take shape. I'll definitely share insights during and after the build,
especially as I get acclimated to the new bike. Cheers and Happy New Year!

 Tony
