Now nobody takes racing skis off of the race course unless they are carving trenches on the groomers. The technology still trickles down to the all mountain or free rider crowd. [RBW] Single Track on my Big Atlantis (White Rim next?)
Went for a mixed terrain ride in Park City, UT today and got sucked into my first long sections of single track on my Atlantis. I've ridden these trails before on a front sprung mountain bike so I knew how difficult they were. The big Atlantis (64cm) rolling 50mm Schwalbe Marathons with drop bars, FR racks, a basket and fenders handled superbly. At one point an approaching party asked for directions and in mid-sentence asked is that a Rivendell? I'm from Walnut Creek and the guy behind me has one. Small world as he was only the second person I spoke too the entire ride. More dirt and single track to follow. Has anyone here ridden an Atlantis (or all rounder) on The White Rim Trail in Canyonlands NP? I'm thinking that it would be a good steed for that with a possible tire change before heading south. If the guys from Walnut Creek are on here, I hope you had a great time in PC the riding here is pretty spectacular. g -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: Looking for that String in The Custom Color Labyrinth
I had a custom hardtail painted by Joe Bell years ago and the builder handed me a paint sample book from the company that Joe buys his paints from. Find out from Rivendell what line of paint Joe is using and a local body shop or body shop supply house should have a sample book for you to page through. While not having the cutouts and fills that your AHH will have the paint on that mountain bike is beautiful. --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: Phenomenal (Roadeo design)
I have those brakes with JBs on my Ram. I love them but I worry about tire to fender clearance with my VO fenders. The clearance is so tight that I have to deflate the rear tire to get the wheel on and off with the fenders on. Without the fenders it rides like a dream and looks much better than with the bigmouth/Silvers. On all of my recent long tours (3 @ 800 miles each or more) I have made use of public transportation when and where it made sense. In my 20's I would never have consider taking a ride in a car, bus or train and diluting the purity of my bicycle ride from point A to point B. Now that I'm 50, I've become quite a bit more flexible and realistic about my travel goals. Using public transportation seems a lot easier with panniers. On our most recent tour, for example, my wife and I took a commuter train (BART) from San Francisco to the East Bay and back in order to visit family. This involved putting our bikes into small elevators to reach the platforms and then wheeling our bikes into relatively full train cars. We probably could have coped with the logistics of doing this with trailers (BOB or otherwise) but it sure was easy with the panniers. We've also made use of local and city-to-city buses on our tours. It is relatively easy to wheel up to the bus stop, pop off the panniers in about 10 seconds (we use Ortlieb and Carradice), put the bikes on the rack on the front of the bus and hop on board with our panniers. Admittedly, we pack light enough that all of our gear fits into our 4 panniers each. I can't imagine carrying a loaded BOB trailer onto a bus as easily due to the length and unwieldy nature of the trailer. I have carried heavy loads both on a BOB trailer and with racks and panniers on this bike but only for day trips or occasional errand runs. I have seen it happen to mountain bikes attached via the fork dropouts on Utah's White Rim Trail. The bouncing around of the truck causes the skewer to loosen and the bike falls over. Darren/Clayton, Any chance the you could snap a picture of looking down upon the thumbies and interrupters and post it?
