Beautiful! Randy Mike Irwin wrote: I was more excited today than the day I got my first car. Today was the day that I put the finishing touches on my Rivendell Protovelo 650b and took it for the first spin. I'm so jazzed. I had to eat an overstuffed burrito just to calm me down a bit. (Nothing like a belly full of rice, beans and peppers to put the brakes on the excitement.) Anyway, I took an easy 3 mile roll. When I got back, my wife was waiting with the camera. She knew I'd want to snap pics and post immediately. http://www.flickr.com/photos/36294...@n03/sets/72157616898042722/ A short backstory...my first experience with a Riv was a Quickbeam I picked up. Geared riding is more suited for my needs, so after a little business, I was able to set off on a new project. The frame put in its due time with Colorado Dave. (In its second life, the Brown Bomber as it was aptly named in this forum, will hope to see mostly rolling hills...at least for the next few months...) It took me a while to figure out how I wanted to build it up. In fact, it took me 7 months. I kept going back and forth between an upright and a traditional randonneur-style bike. My intent is to finally get out for some real nice long adventures. I've got the upright thing covered, so I decided to go full speed ahead with the randonneur design. I spent hours/days/weeks staring at the builds on Cyclofiend.com. (Thanks Jim for all your efforts...an invaluable asset during my build.) I needed a little help here and there and worked with my LBS to get through the finish line. I learned a lot in the process. My LBS owner was in awe and I showed him a few of the other models on the site. Anyway, that's my story. Thanks for everyone's patience and advice as I asked questions (often times complete newbie Q's) over the past few months. --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: Meet a new Rivendellian today!
David - Well, January 10 will be the third PCH Randos 200K ride, and definitely the flattest. Don't believe what the PCHR website says about 3000-3500 feet of climbing. I rode a nearly identical route in September (the Montecito Malibu Meander 203K RUSA permanent) and it clocked 1900 feet of climbing. (I guess I should pass that info on to the PCHR webmaster!)
