Leah!

I'm in! Navy Pier can be a bit of a tourist trap, and might be hard to lock
up a big number of bikes. Along the trail are a few cafe stands, and
there's also a handful around Buckingham Fountain (with restrooms).

[RBW] Opinions on hanging style bike rack for cars

2022-04-28 Thread Sean B.
Hello,

Does anyone have experience with these types of car racks? I recently
purchased one, but am now seeing a lot of negative opinions on them.
Worried about damaging my girlfriend and I's Rivs. I went to a local Rack
Attack store and they suggested the Thule Helium Pro 3. I shouldn't have
trusted them as the reviews do not look great. Then again, should I trust
online reviews? Hence why I wanted to ask the good people here.

Thanks!

[RBW] Shortening Stem Length

2022-02-16 Thread Sean B.
For awhile I've been riding my 2018 51cm AHH on a 9cm stem with the Nitto
Noodles. Last summer I decided over the winter I wanted to shorten the
reach a bit. I feel slightly stretched out when riding in the hoods, so I
tend to ride on the ramps/tops. Shortening it 1cm is too little. So should
I go for a 2cm or 3cm change? It's hard to see without actually riding on
them, but my guess is the 2cm change might be the best for me (I realize
this is super subjective). Does anyone else have experience with this
issue?

Thank you for all the replies. I would like a SON rear light that's always
on, and a secondary light. But, I dont have much room to mount a battery
powered one. I was looking for some kind of hanging light to attach to my
North Street trunk sack. The only hanging light I can find is Well
google "hanging bike light" if you'd like.

Anyways, does any one know of a hanging light to attach to a bag?

[RBW] SON Rear Light Brightness?

2021-10-26 Thread Sean B.
Hello!

I currently have a SONdelux Wide-Body hub with a SON Edelux II headlight
and was wanting to get a taillight as well. Does anyone have experience
with the SON Rear Light? If so, how bright is it and what system are you
using it on? I cant find many reviews online, so thought I'd ask y'all.

Thanks!

I'm 5'9" and have a PBH of 83cm. I spoke with Grant and Vince and they both
suggested a 51 AHH for me. I do ride in a city, so a lot of stops at

again to be sure I was doing it right, then again a couple of weeks later.
Every bicycle I had from 1975 on was 700c. There was no way I was
going to go 650b. I ordered a Sam in 2015, and Will set me up with a 55
 Cm
frame even though I did not mention my aversion to 650b. The SOH of that
 frame was listed at 83.3.

My Sam felt just a little “tall” for me. Sliding off the seat forward
at a stop took some getting used to. I did adapt, however, and now the
 Sam
feels like it is part of me when I ride.

Last year I got a 51 Cm Homer (650b), to see if a smaller frame would
be better. It is MUCH too small. Don’t do that.

So I’m with J L. Call Riv, and believe what they set you up with. If
they try to set you up with a frame that takes 650b, and you don’t want
 650b, buy something else.

As for another model similar to a Sam, look for a Soma Saga. A
Platypus is also listed as “a country bike”, but it feels nothing like a
Sam, while the Saga does. I do think a good used Sam from the 2014 - 2017
era would be a good fit, and the 54 Cm probably would, too. If you slide
off the seat, be sure to land on your toes. ;-)

Why do you think the chainstays on the Hillborne are shorter than the AHH?
With the AHH being more of a roadish bike, I would imagine it would be
opposite.

From an engineering perspective, what I appreciate about side-pull

 fork

Reminds me - James told me via email that the Charlie H Gallop is going
to be side-pull rather than v-brake like the prototypes

[RBW] Re: New bike woes - Albatross bars and Brooks B17 Special saddle

2019-05-06 Thread Sean B.

Thanks everyone for the responses! I've tried most things. Tilting the
saddle more, putting on proofide, a different saddle, and a different
seatpost. I have purchased a Nitto S84 seat post and a Selle Anatomica
saddle. The S84 and the B17 got it a little bit closer to where I needed
it, but I wanted to try a different saddle too. I rode the Selle Anatomica
on the Kalloy Uno that came with my AHH, and it still hurt my tail bone. So
to get it further back, I put the Selle Anatomica on the S84. I have yet to
ride it, but it does look a little ridiculously far back. I should also
mention that my sitbones are nor longer sore with either setup.

My PBH is 78.74 so the frame (51cm) should be a good size even if it's
slightly small. I'm now thinking about getting a 130mm Tallux to bring it
all together. But it is getting quite expensive trying to get this dialed
into cycling bliss.

With that said, anyone selling a 130mm Tallux? I might make another post
too.

I'm using an 11cm stem and a seat post with a setback of at least 2cm (I'm

Thanks Joe! What did you end up going with?

I really like these bars, even went with a longer stem like Grant
recommended. I might try another seat post. VO has one with 30mm of set
back, I'm not sure what my current is so will have to measure or call. Then
again I might just abandon upright-ness and go back to drops.

So I've recently set up my new MIT AHH with the albatross bars and the B17
special. I've only ridden it about half a dozen times (approx 50-60 miles).
I know there's to be some breaking in for the Brooks. But I'm wondering if
the B17 was the wrong choice with the upright Albatross bars. My ride this
morning has my tailbone quite sore. I haven't ridden much since last summer
and it could be due to shifting my weight since my sitbones were sore from
a long ride on Saturday.

Does anyone else ride with this same setup? Should I wait and see how it
breaks in or try another saddle like the Selle Anatomica X1?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cinzaw,

I can't give you a price. But what size is it? Might be interested once you
come up with a price.

[RBW] Re: FT: My 54.5cm MIT AHH for your 54cm AHH or Saluki

2019-04-09 Thread Sean B.
My PBH is 78.74cm and I have a 51cm AHH. It's slightly small, but the 54.5
would be too big. I do like the stand over though because of stop lights
and whatnot.

Re: [RBW] Re: Coffee grinders -- I **know** that this is NOT off topic!

2019-03-14 Thread Sean B.
I keep a hand crank on hand for emergencies. This is the one I use:
https://www.amazon.com/JavaPresse-Grinder-Conical-Brushed-Stainless/dp/B013R3Q7B2/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_79_bs_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=8CRZM5VX6DXTT22K7ZB3

They're mostly ceramic, so not as sturdy as steel. It will take about 5
mins to grind the beans. I only use a Chemex or French Press so it's easier
to achieve the grind needed. Turkish might not be great as even the entry
level steel grinders have problems giving fine espresso/turkish grinds.

Conical burr grinders are your friend.

This is the one I use daily:

Also, I would never suggest buying in bulk or freezing. Buy fresh in small
batches and grind right before brewing.

The bars rotate down within the stem when weight is applied to the bars.
"Hammering" down on the bolt = over-tightening the clamp.

Thanks.

2018-12-01 Thread Sean B.
What size seatpost does the frame use? Does frame size change the diameter? The
frame came to me with a 26.8 x 250. I think it's too small as I have the clamp
bolt tightened all the way down. Afraid to give it too much more force.
