[RBW] Re: Tire trouble puzzlement
In case anyone cares, I have put Soma B-Lines, Regular Hetres and now Soma Xpress and 650b Marathons on 5 different Synergies from Australia and Florida and been unable to get any of them completely round. I have put many miles on them and don't find the bumps to be detectable or a problem. I also was riding around last week with a 700x28 tube in there folded into a chicane at one point and it made it across town a couple times. I am pretty sure I haven't had anything but pinch flats (my fault) and maybe two glass shards in the 3 years I've been riding these wheels. [RBW] Re: Latest in Fenders!
The point of the very light single fender is to allow other people to ride close behind you in a paceline without having to get pieces of street on their lips. On a brevet this is vital if you are otherwise a no fender type of person. [RBW] Re: Panaracer Tour Tire
Judging by the similar weight and looks, probably a Marathon competitor. Maybe try these: http://www.somafab.com/archives/product/new-express I have the non-hypertex ones in 650b and they're just like a Pasela. The tires were great, my main complaint was and still is, issues with the sidewalls, that they're not that durable. I used T-Serves, again, first 35s and then 32s which are now on my randonneuring bike and like those well enough. Still, Schwalbe Marathons seem to have taken over for me. I currently have them on my commuter, my LHT (40s) and my Hilsen (35)s. I like them well enough, while they're sluggish, they're durable and dependable. I think they're ideal for just riding. Still, I'm always on the lookout for new tires and noticed these new Panaracer Tour Tires. http://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=58386 http://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/product_details.php?id=58385 They seem to come in a good range of sizes (32, 35, 38, 42) and the price is right. Has anyone else seen or used these? I wonder if they're just Paselas with a black sidewall and reflective strip? Given the low price I'm sure to try them out at some point, most likely the 38s or 42s. --mike -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: Beautiful 68cm Rivendell Bombadil
Looks to me like the bent pictures are an illusion caused by light hitting the front of the fork blades, as well as the fork being turned slightly away from us (left). Only you can tell if it's bent though, and if you can't tell in 3-D then its not bent enough to worry about I'd say. -Tom On Thursday, September 13, 2012 9:00:01 PM UTC-7, Amit Singh wrote: A good friend took the time to search through my flickr stream and found this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/amisingh/6314859575/in/set-72157626396224998 Straight as an -- On Thursday, 13 September 2012 22:10:35 UTC-4, Amit Singh wrote: You know what? I let it go because it's always hard to tell from a single photo, but now that I've seen another, I have to agree...that thing is bent man. The fact that it's bent forward is interesting and concerning. Forks are usually bent backwards from some type of crash, in which the front wheel is stopped by an obstacle and the weight of the bike bends the fork backwards under it. Bending forward means that the bending force was solely vertical--like hopping off a curb carrying a lot of weight. In any case, I'd be wary about loaded touring with that thing. Chances are that now weakened, it would keep bending or even worse, crack at the crown. Send it back to Riv, or else get the correct fork rake specs and have a framebuilder or well-equipped (i.e. with fork jig) LBS bend it back for you, and then keep an eagle eye on it.
