[RBW] (Belated) New (to me) Bike Day: Rambouillet!
I'd recently been finding myself pining after the aesthetic of many mid-2000's Rivendells, looking longingly at pictures the Quickbeam I used to have but sold to another list member (hey, Wally!), when a 64cm Rambouillet popped up on a nearby craigslist. It seemed like just the thing, with the usual spot-on Rivendell build and some really nice finishing touches: Dura-Ace hubs, hammered Honjos, Gilles Berthoud bag, titanium B.17. I decided to move on a few other projects and spring for this one. Connecting with the buyer and seeing the bike was one of those "it's meant to be" moments: he literally lived across the street from my sister-in-law's apartment, and when I hopped on to test ride, the saddle was already in the perfect position for me--no adjustments needed. And that's kind of the point with this bike. I usually like having projects, building or re-building my bikes so they're a reflection of me. But I have a baby on the way any minute now, and probably will have less time and attention for projects moving forward. The Rambouillet is done up so nicely I don't feel the need to change anything on it just yet.
