[RBW] Backup Bikes

2014-12-31 Thread Lynne Fitz
When I was hit by a car and Bleriot was mangled, the backup bike (1971 Gitane
TdF) was recalled from the daughter's shed. She had kidnapped it, but wasn't
using it. Borrowed a 700c generator hub wheel from a friend, replaced the rear
wheel with one which had a functioning hub (the Helicomatic hub died), and used
it as a commuter for several months until Bleriot returned, all repaired and
repainted. Had to remember how to use downtube shifters :-)

[RBW] Backup Bikes

2014-12-30 Thread Brian Hanson
Today was a backup bike day. Had a slow leak in the tubeless (front tire
amazingly!?) that is in need of a refill of Stans, but I needed to run an
errand. Hopped on the old Stumpy and had a good ride into town. For those
of you contemplating another set of wheels or a different cockpit, get
another bike (or keep your old one). It comes in handy - you won't regret
it...

Re: [RBW] Backup Bikes

2014-12-30 Thread Jim Bronson
I'm riding the backup bike tomorrow because it's too cold in the garage to
work on the primary bike. So I dropped it off at the shop instead and will
ride #2. Forecast high is 41 with a stiff north wind. Let's go ride!

Re: [RBW] Backup Bikes

2014-12-30 Thread Deacon Patrick
Sounds balmy! We had a high today of -1˚F. I was deeply disappointed the
brain was blown up before I could get out in the crisp goodness. The good
news is it's -15˚F now, so I have another shot at it on the morrow!

With abandon,
Patrick
