Hey Folks:

I have a Nitto 32F that I bought with my Sam in 2009. I haven't used it
much, and it has spent most of its life in a closet. Riv's rating for its
capacity is 4.4 pounds. This is probably very conservative, but I am not
one to test fate. The M18 seems like a great little rack, and while I can
see potential failure points there as well, I like that the struts are
adjustable rather than fixed like the 32F. It's also rated up to 5kg, more
than double the 32F. If I sold the 32F, I would like $120 shipped OBO.

I would love to hear from anyone with experience using both of these racks.
Should I just stick with the 32F because the rating is probably super
conservative or should I swap over to the M18? What else should I be
thinking about here? I have also considered acquiring an R14 to be mounted
up front a la Grant. Would that be a good call? Any other suggestions?

FWIW, this rack will spend most of its time on my new Surly Troll (and some
on my Sam), which I will ride mostly off-road and to/from trails. It will
support a saddlebag mounted up front and/or a basket, depending on the day.

Thanks,

Bob K. in Baltimore
