Had a nice chat with Anne on the drive from Abiquiu to Santa Fe and over
lunch. She looked no worse for the wear of 2 months on the trail. Great
meeting you Anne and safe travels.

Congratulations, Anne!!! Amazing accomplishment. You're my hero. Did you have
the opportunity to ride the Monarch Crest Trail?

[RBW] Getting self, bike home from Albuquerque

2015-08-23 Thread Lynne Fitz
Wiki Travel suggests: The North Central Regional Transit District [1] Blue
Buses provides free bus service into and out of Abiquiu on Tuesday and
Thursday with routes that connect the counties and communities of Rio Arriba
(Abiquiu), Santa Fe, Taos and Los Alamos with a stop at Bodes General Store.
Didn't say if they carried bikes.

[RBW] Getting self, bike home from Albuquerque

2015-08-23 Thread Anne Paulson
Hi Riv friends,

I've been having a great time on the Great Divide (Manny, you should so do
this ride!) and now it's time to go home. I'm in Salida Colorado right now.
My riding buddy who joined me in Pinedale WY is being picked up in Abiquiu,
NM, and I'm thinking that's a good place for me to start heading for an
airport or train station. I'm kind of reluctant to ride dry, desolate New
Mexico alone.

Can any locals give me suggestions on how to get home from Abiquiu? What
would be a good route from Abiquiu to a city?

--Anne

PS, if you join a southbound friend on the Divide route, don't join them in
Pinedale. You'd be starting the route just as it goes from great to awful.
All parts of the Divide route other than the Great Basin are fantastic.

Re: [RBW] Getting self, bike home from Albuquerque

2015-08-23 Thread tarik saleh
Just to close the loop on this, I will almost certainly pick Anne up in
Abiquiu and take her to Santa Fe when she gets there so she can easily get
to Albuquerque Airport or Amtrack.

For future divide riders on the list, I am a pretty good contact for people
that need a ride or help in northern NM (NM/Co border to Cuba, NM). The
bus services are pretty dismal/non existent to Abiquiu, but there are
options (park and ride busses with bike racks) just down the road in
Espanola, although it is not a great ride from Abiquiu.

A few years ago when we had a record heat wave during the tour divide, most
of the people who bailed out in Northern NM hitched rides down to Espanola
or Santa fe and caught busses and trains out from there.

Later
