John-

The Saris Superclamp has hooks that go over the top of the wheels, like
many other tray racks.

If you have fenders, then the clamp goes over the fender. I don't trust
the security of that (my fender holding my bike up), and I think it would
eventually damage the fender.

That's why I prefer ones that clamp over the top tube, like the Thule
Double Track, Saris Freedom, or the Hollywood racks. Most top tube clamps
are easily compatible with a mixte, without adapters.

[RBW] Hitch rack recommendations?

I've been using a loaner where the bikes hang from the top tube. Would not
recommend it. Pain to load and I can't figure out how to load my wife's mixte.
If I was buying one, I'd get one with wheel trays. Also want it to either tip
or swing out of the way of the rear door.
I've been curious about the new Saris. Sounds good on their website (but
doesn't everything?). Here's the link:

PS: all my bikes have fenders and albatross bars which this rack accommodates
without issue.

[RBW] Hitch rack recommendations?

2017-08-14 Thread WETH
Michelle,
I've had this Hollywood 4 bike system for several years and have been very
happy. They sell 2 bike models as well.
http://www.hollywoodracks.com/bike-racks/hitch-racks/sportrider-hitch-rack-4
Here is a photo of it in use on my Jeep: https://flic.kr/p/X7zXd3
Other companies make similar racks.
Good luck in your search,
Erl

[RBW] Hitch rack recommendations?

2017-08-14 Thread Michele
Shopping for a rack for my car, so I can get my bike to farther flung
locations, and I'm realizing that most hitch racks require a naked front
wheel. I need one that allows me to have a small rack and Wald 137 on the
front. I'm considering the Thule DoubleTrack Pro
https://www.thule.com/en-us/us/bike-rack/hitch-bike-racks/thule-doubletrack-pro-_-1691160

but I'm wondering what riders in this group use?
