Frog: With the 11-34 rear, the 36 middle ring covers most situations. On
tonight's shakedown ride, it did spin up to 32 mph on the flat with the 50 and
a downhill push from a roller. The steering is quick (50mm trail) but stable.
Still getting used to it. That crank came as the factory build on my Ram (which
now has an Ultegra triple). Thanks for the comment.

So, the bike is built and it rides really nice. The Terraferma fork has 2.5 cm
more rake than the standard steel Waterford fork. The bike is quick to corner
but remarkably stable. Just some laps around our block so far which is a mile
loop on a hillside. You get to coast fast and then work hard on every lap :).
If the weather stays dry, first road ride will be tonight. Picture at the
link and the photos have most of the parts listed. Only thing bought new for
this build are the stem adapter and stem, cable housings, front brake (came
with bike). The saddle, seat post, handlebar, cranks, deraillers, shifters, bar
tape, pedals, etc all came off either the Riv Road, a prior Saluki, or the
Rambouillet. The geometry is very classic Riv. 52 x 52 frame with 42
chainstays.

I've started to build up the frame and fork which came from another list member
last week. (Thanks Jim!) The shipped fork is a Terrafirma and has studs for a
centerpull brake and fork rack braze-ons. I have a spare Waterford road fork
that is new and uncut, but decided to keep the Terrafirma. Honestly, I didn't
feel like pulling off the headset and pressing it on the other fork and cutting
the steerer tube. It remains an option. I did decide to use a caliper rear
brake though and pulled it off the sideined Rivendell Road. (It has a cracked
chain stay. Fixable per Grant, but pricey when you add in shipping both ways
and the required re paint work. It was more economical to buy the essentially
NOS '99 Waterford and build it up.) Anyone recognize the color of this bike?
yes it is EXACTLY the original color of the Rivendell Road. Cream headtube?
Also period correct for a Rivendell. You say the Road had Reynolds 753? Why so
does this R12! And the RS12 uses the lightweight version of the tubeset. RBW
specified a thicker set. The Road has a level top tube, and so does the R12!
The RS12 came with a Mafac Competition front brake installed and I left it
there. The rear and some spare Mafac 2000 calipers will stay in the ziplok bags
they arrrived in. The crankset is the Sugino that came with my '05 Rambouillet.
(That bike now sports an Ultegra triple). The deraillers are Campy and came off
the RBW road. The seatpost is a Nitto frog and from RBW years ago, as is the
Selle Anatomica saddle. The Nitto noodle handlebar was also original equipment
on the Rambouillet (which now has an RBW mustache bar).

The frame is a 52 CM and is not that different from the Ram in layout, except
the Ram is a 559 wheel bike in 52 and this bike was built for 700 but looks
great in 584s. You can see I'm using a stem extension to get the bars way high.
I may lower them after riding. The chainstays are a hair shorter. Head tube
angle seems about the same. Headtube is extended just like on the Ram. So, RBW
colors, made in the same shop from the same alloy of tubing, with much of the
same design thinking. I sat on it this morning and it feels very good. It's
also quite light.

The original owner had a woman's name painted on the TT, and the first name is
"Doris" I named the Ram "Louise" long ago. So, sisters in blue. Picture
below. The ugly black Bontrager stem was in my parts bin. I'll see how it
looks after T wrap the bars with black Brooks tape, but may change it out. Need
to add bar-end shifters and the chain I've just cleaned up after taking it off
the Road. Only item to order I think is a cable set. Not sure on color for that
though. In process picture below. Comments welcome
