[RBW] My first Riv - at long last. with pic.

2013-11-03 Thread cbone97
Sharing my happiness.

After a few years and as many times of nearly ordering a frame from Riv; I
bought a used Sam frame used here on the bunch, slapped on my Nitto rear
rack, wide low
doubles and grip kings (from previous bike), placed an order with Riv (bar
tape, twine, tires, cables, kickstand, thumb shifter, shop sack), and
another with (not-Riv) for, ummthe rest including Brooks Aged B17,
Tektro cantis, TRP RRL levers, rear derailer (i don't run a front), a Nitto
dirt drop quill, and Nitto Rando B132 bars. Wheels are Velocity Dyads; one
came with the frame and another from Hiawatha Cyclery (thanks Jim!).

I feel a little guilty for not getting a couple of the Rivailable things
from not-Riv, but I save a buck where I can to fund Riv-only /
Riv-cheap-as-anywhere stuff - like the shop sack (this is a great, great
product whether or not you have a bike to put it on!), *Just Ride*,
knickers, etc. Grant, please forgive me.

I am LOVING this bike. The Sam frame is a comfy dream. It's my first 700c
bike and even though the Contis are not skinny, they are to me and I feel
like a knife in hot butter compared to any other bike I've ever ridden. The
drop bars are another first and I have 'em way up on high where they're
comfortable and can't be mistaken for anything like racer-mimicry. I had a
local bike shop put on the cables and set the brakes and der. The mechanic
called me and asked where I wanted the thumb lever. I hadn't given it that
much thought, so I reply near the stem, wherever works. I was surprised
to find he mounted the humble SunRace *on* the stem where it minimizes
cablery, stays outta my way, and works perfect. Many thanks to this
innovative mechanic!

What's next? Twining my h'bars, cutting down and bolting on the kickstand,
and getting a front rack for my med. Wald basket and Riv Shop Sack. Can't
wait!

Yesterday was its first day out here in Columbia MO - just an easy spin
around Cosmo park with my lovely wife and 2 wonderful sons - which reminded
me how blessed I am. If any of you end up in CoMO, give me a holler.

Micro-picture doesn't show much, but nothing wrong with an orange
Rivendell! Hope you like the drops. High drops are pretty cool as you
can really use the hooks a lot more which gives you a ton of control
in the dirt (you are going to ride in dirt, right...) :-)

Enjoy!

What stem do you have on the Sam? I am guessing dirt drop, but hard to tell
from the picture.
