Don't get me wrong, I was not saying that *I *think you need more than a
40x12. I was saying that a lot of people will tell you that you do. I
think 40x12 is plenty, unless you have to descend at 40mph and insist on
having gearing that allows you to keep up with that.

My Betty has RBW's recommended 26/40 crankset and I still haven't out
pedaled it, much less pedal it on its highest gears on flat ground. Then
again I'm still 40 lbs overweight although working on it. I think I have a
12/34 in the back, but maybe it's 11/34. I'll check.

2016-02-26 Thread Ryan Fleming
well...I'm taking a chance...it's real hard to tell on my monitor ...like
Maroon, Dark rose and berry red are like a red wine colour, and that's kind
of what I'm hoping for. It would be nice to see a Du-pont Imron colour book
in the flesh. I know Grant has also suggested using Crayola crayons colour
labels as a good thing to describe colour

Something like Homer's wine-dark sea...Patrick Moore will lke that I bet:)

Tim, don't get me wrong, I think your Riv is a lovely colour

[RBW] New Riv custom mixte - what I'm thinking for colour and build

2016-02-26 Thread Ryan Fleming
I floated this with Rivendell this morning:

*Color*

Looking at Joe Bell’s IMRON PDF here:

http://www.campyonly.com/images/joebell/imron.pdf

I’m leaning heavily towards Berry Red Metallic (44464)

*Parts*

Chris King headset

Phil Wood Bottom Bracket

Nitto Choco-norm bars with Tallux stem (flipped down like the SH Choco
build shows)…I’d better measure my current Nitto stems (have a Pearl,
Tech-deluxe and a lugged and I do like stem and saddle roughly level)

Brakes..Paul Racer Centerpull and I like the look of those Tektro
“mountain” levers

Brooks B-17 Select w Nitto S-83 seatpost

Wheels (Rich Lesnik build – 650B whatever Velocity Rim he likes White
industries M-15 hubs 36H rear 32 H front, tires …those 650B Paselas with
the folding bead would be awesome if you still have them

Drivetrain:

Sugino compact double (can I do a 36 X 40 front?). Realistically, I don’t
live in the hills so I feel I don’t need a triple…My A/R is triple

Your 9-speed IRD cassette

Ultegra barend shifters

Deore XT front and rear derailleurs…I guess I need the GS medium cage

Pedals…the $40 MKS touring cylocross pedals ; I like MKS pedals…I have a
pair of fancies, but I like the inexpensive ones

Accessories

Cream SKS longboard fenders

2 King Iris cages
