so) and I'm not familiar with the geography. Can someone tell me, on
Hugh's second route map, which mile markers bracket the repack race course?
  Thanks!!

Well I was planning on a 2:35 but I guess that is the weekday schedule and
not the weekend. Honestly I'm leaning more towards skipping the ferry and
riding straight from Embarcadero. You interested in that?

PM me and we'll work out the details if so.

David,

I may try to join you in Sausalito to ride up to West Point. I checked the

I can't make it for the Saturday ride as I won't be in till later. Just now
checking Hugh's route. I'm not familiar with any of the parts of that route
from West Point Inn to Fairfax so can't comment. If you're looking for an
alternative here is what I'd consider: https://goo.gl/maps/hJ5bnnMzcq62

It hits Bolinas Ridge and is mostly downhill from the Inn all the way to
Sir Francis Drake and then a gentle uphill till Fairfax. About the same
mileage and cuts out a lot of climbing in the 1st half, I think, but adds
significant Mileage to Rene's shorter route, but again, I think less
climbing. No matter which way you slice it though its gonna be a lot of
downhill to Fairfax, and then a lot of climbing back up to West Point Inn ;)

If anyone is coming up Saturday and wants to join me, I'll be hitting the
2:35 ferry from Embarcadero to Sausalito and then up the Sausalito-Mill
Valley Bike path, over through Mill Valley, and up Railroad grade with a
goal of getting in around 5:

Ferry Building to Sausalito (2:35 - 3:05)-

http://goldengateferry.org/schedules/Sausalito.php
Sausalito to West Point Inn (~2 hours) -

Since I haven't gotten really zip for feedback regarding my latest

feel the full 43 miles would be too much I suggest taking San Geronimo
Ridge just before mile marker 12 which will cut out the Pine Mountain
 loop
but will cut out 9 miles, you still get the Repack descent and we can
 all
meet up at the Museum. To take in account the time differential those
 that
head to Fairfax early can grab a bite to eat in town while the Pine
Mountain crew eat out on the trail.

In terms of time I think a 8am roll out would work. That gives us
9 hours to ride visit the museum and get back to the Inn around 5pm.

 Hi Folks,

I think my post to the original got buried.

I wanted to throw out this ride as a potential Saturday ride from
the Inn and back with a stop at the Marin Museum of Bicycling. At
 first
glance it looks like a formidable ride 32 miles and 6200' elevation
 but we
have all day to do this ride. I purpose we bring a lunch with us and
 eat
out on the trail. Of course not all are up for a ride like this. I
encourage folks to chime in with a plan "B" and "C" route(s) maybe a
 bail
out on my route where we all meet at a specific time at the museum for
 a
tour and a really mellow ride staying closer to the Inn.

Without further fanfare here's the route
 .

lowish tire pressure. If you can I'd mount knobby tires, my recollection of

Re: [RBW] RE: RE: RBW Listers Take Over The West Point Inn, June 24 & 25 - Join us there!!! Proposed Ride.

2016-06-11 Thread Hugh Smitham
Depends on the setup of each of your rigs. If the atlantis has chubby/
knobby tires and you're going to do the PM loop that's what I'd bring. I'm
planning on riding my 1995 Salsa Ala Carte with Schwalbe 2.1 Thunder Burts/
tubeless.

Didn't you just do the Tahoe loop? Ah 72 miles and 3800' I think you'll be
fine on this ride. No one's going to try and break any land speed records.
No rider left behind spirit. Lots of photo op's, read that as rest breaks,
regroups and scenic viewpoints.

No worries! 8am might be hard for me. I don't think Bart from Berkeley to
SF starts running until around 6 on Saturdays. Might try anyways and see if

René, glad you can make it There is a big lot at Pantoll, but it fills
up on the weekend. The ride is starting early, so shouldn't be a problem. I
think it's $8 for day/24 hr parking. From the lot at Pantoll, it's two
miles to the Inn, so budget time for that.

Here's the route to the Inn: https://goo.gl/maps/aK7V9Zo2Tex

 Hi Sean,

Sorry for the delay in responding.

Since I haven't gotten really zip for feedback regarding my latest
route update I'm going to presume that the route is a go. For those
 that
feel the full 43 miles would be too much I suggest taking San Geronimo
Ridge just before mile marker 12 which will cut out the Pine Mountain
 loop
but will cut out 9 miles, you still get the Repack descent and we can
 all
meet up at the Museum. To take in account the time differential those
 that
head to Fairfax early can grab a bite to eat in town while the Pine
Mountain crew eat out on the trail.

In terms of time I think a 8am roll out would work. That gives us
9 hours to ride visit the museum and get back to the Inn around 5pm.

How's that sound (crickets) to ya' all.

 Hi Sean,

Sorry for the delay in responding.

Since I haven't gotten really zip for feedback regarding my latest
route update I'm going to presume that the route is a go. For those that
feel the full 43 miles would be too much I suggest taking San Geronimo
Ridge just before mile marker 12 which will cut out the Pine Mountain loop
but will cut out 9 miles, you still get the Repack descent and we can all
meet up at the Museum. To take in account the time differential those that
head to Fairfax early can grab a bite to eat in town while the Pine
Mountain crew eat out on the trail.

In terms of time I think a 8am roll out would work. That gives us 9
hours to ride visit the museum and get back to the Inn around 5pm.

How's that sound (crickets) to ya' all.

 Hi Folks,

I think my post to the original got buried.

I wanted to throw out this ride as a potential Saturday ride from
the Inn and back with a stop at the Marin Museum of Bicycling. At first
glance it looks like a formidable ride 32 miles and 6200' elevation
 but we
have all day to do this ride.

Without further fanfare here's the route
 .

Re: [RBW] RE: RE: RBW Listers Take Over The West Point Inn, June 24 & 25 - Join us there!!! Proposed Ride.

2016-06-11 Thread David Stein
Looks awesome but I won't be staying Friday and plan on coming up Sunday. I
may try and meet you at the musuem and ride bike if you have a loose time
frame of when you'll be there, but more than likely I'll just head up old
railroad grade mid to late afternoon to make it for dinner if anyone wants
to join me for that (will either drive and leave from mill valley, or ferry
over to sausalito and ride up from there).

2016-06-11 Thread Hugh Smitham
Hi Sean,

Sorry for the delay in responding.

Since I haven't gotten really zip for feedback regarding my latest route
update I'm going to presume that the route is a go. For those that feel the
full 43 miles would be too much I suggest taking San Geronimo Ridge just
before mile marker 12 which will cut out the Pine Mountain loop but will
cut out 9 miles, you still get the Repack descent and we can all meet up at
the Museum. To take in account the time differential those that head to
Fairfax early can grab a bite to eat in town while the Pine Mountain crew
eat out on the trail.

In terms of time I think a 8am roll out would work. That gives us 9 hours
to ride visit the museum and get back to the Inn around 5pm.

How's that sound (crickets) to ya' all.

Yeeaaah. For some reason google let you route down the spur/downhill track
and not onto the eldridge fireroad at those 40% sections. Just stick to the
obvious fireroad up and down and you will be fine, and not get fined. Have
fun, upper eldridge is one of my favorites.

Well I don't ride up there much. I was hoping the locals could let me know
whether this route was doable. 40% does seem a tad much. I chose all trails
and roads I've heard people have ridden.

[RBW] RE: RE: RBW Listers Take Over The West Point Inn, June 24 & 25 - Join us there!!! Proposed Ride.

2016-06-09 Thread Hugh Smitham
Hi Folks,

I think my post to the original got buried.

I wanted to throw out this ride as a potential Saturday ride from the Inn
and back with a stop at the Marin Museum of Bicycling. At first glance it
looks like a formidable ride 32 miles and 6200' elevation but we have all
day to do this ride. I purpose we bring a lunch with us and eat out on the
trail. Of course not all are up for a ride like this. I encourage folks to
chime in with a plan "B" and "C" route(s) maybe a bail out on my route
where we all meet at a specific time at the museum for a tour and a really
mellow ride staying closer to the Inn.

Without further fanfare here's the route
.

Your thoughts?
