No front brake! But it has a rear brake.

I saw an early Vanilla in Portland that had been ridden across the U.S., and
then chained to every light post in the Pacific Northwest. Similar aesthetic.

There is definitely a point when lack of care shortens the life of a bike
or its parts, where you can probably call it neglect or abuse. But
think the original purpose of the term 'beausage' was to celebrate the
inevitable marks, wear, and other evidence of a bicycle having been used
as a faithful tool for living and doing. Not sure where the above bikes
fit, but it looks and sounds like they're being well used.

Funny you mention that, as this thread made me think of what was likely the
same bike. I remember seeing the eBay auction for it a couple years back. I
think the listing promoted it as the world's only beater Vanilla and it
certainly looked the part.

I think I remember the harvest gold one. Did he do a 'round the world tour
just after it was built? If so, it is somewhat of a sister to my harvest
gold allrounder. They were Curt-built at just the same time ('05,) same
color, same-ish size. Mike has mid fork braze-ons and a different fork
crown, though. Mine has not been coddled, but the paint is certainly in
better shape!
