[RBW] Re: Any weight difference in Romulus/Rambouillet?

2012-02-07 Thread Michael Hechmer
I would expect that the Romulus used more rigid seat stays and front fork
to support the canti brakes. Maybe a couple of oz.

The original Romulus did not have canti brakes.

Yeah, the Canti-Rom was an accident--miscommunication between Riv and
the builder.

Going by memory, the Rom was intended as a less expensive version of
the Rambouillet. One color paint, slightly cheaper stays. (not heat
treated? single-butted? Not tapered? Some small difference like
that) I can't recall if maybe it had a slightly cheaper tubeset, too,
but it was a very similar frame and only weighed a tiny bit more than
the Rambouillet...

There were some minor differences in joinery and dropouts, but they were
pretty much the same frame with some simpler paint.

The much longer name : Rambouillet, means a much heavier decal, negating a
significant part of the weight savings.

Don't even get me started on headbadges!

Yes, but after taking kerning into account, the difference is much less.
