picturesque towns in coastal Southern California. I can't think of a better

river trail. Meet up in Ventura near Garden St and Santa Clara by 9 and
hit the road around 9:30. This is a no man left behind sort of ride. We
will be taking breaks for re-groups etc. I recommend 3 water bottles as a
minimum for the climb up Sulphur. Tires 32mm wide for the dirt, gearing
for 8-10% grades and brakes in order for the back side of the mountain are
 all suggested as well.

We will stop at one of the many options for lunch in Ojai to grab
something quick to eat and get back on the Road.

This is a no host ride and not associated or sponsored by Ocean Air
Cycles, just a bunch of like minded folks getting together for a fun ride.
Feel free to invite friends and spread the word. The ride is all about
having fun and enjoying the local scenery, pace is moderate, by no means a
hammer fest, but the climbing will likely test your endurance.

I am looking forward to riding with all of you, meeting some new friends
and sharing some of the best riding our region has to offer.

2013-04-08 Thread rperks
A huge thank you to everybody who came out. Organizing rides like this
helps to motivate me for these rides that are right out our back door here
in Ventura. I am pretty sure everybody had a great time, some new
thresholds were set and everybody had a smile by the time they were done,
no mechanicals or even flats that I know of. Pretty much a perfect day,
even the weather worked out. That wind advisory that never panned out,
thank God, is here today with sustained 20mph out of the west and gusts way
beyond that, shaking the windows while I type.

I threw up some flick pics here:

We need to do this more often!

Rob, thanks again for organizing a great day! The route was amazing and
really shows what SoCal has to offer. It was nice to meet new faces and
their bikes, make contacts for future rides and chat about our common
appreciation for all things bicycles. Had been looking forward to meeting
and riding with Mike Shiller but the drive from Northern San Diego county 6
hrs RT would be difficult as someone said traffic through Los Angeles is an
adventure unto itself. I'm sure we'll see him on the next one. Here are my
images from the ride, I threw in some from my early drive up the day before
after all this is documenting my experience enjoy.

2013-04-08 Thread cyclotourist
I think there are several options I know of: Pallisades/SM Mtns are always
a crowd-pleaser! I like the San Clemente loop as well, but don't know how
anyone else feels about it. Santiago to 4 Corners is a blast.

Loch Leven is a really nice ride, but I can't figure out a good way to do
it. The approach from town is about two hours of pedaling up a busy
highway. Doable as the rewards are there, but not as awesome as I would
like :-) Perhaps that could be turned into a bit of a MTB adventure
featuring the SART. I ride that on my Rivendell, but it is definitely
mountain-bikey with some exposed rocky falls over the side for the
unwary.http://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclotourist/4940165060/in/set-72157624713581625Not
a beginner ride by any means. That said, I've pulled my kid on a
Piccolo
through
ithttp://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclotourist/4939573567/in/set-72157624713581625,
so not that bad... H, got me thinking on this one!

Cycles, just a bunch of like minded folks getting together for a fun
 ride.
Feel free to invite friends and spread the word. The ride is all
 about
having fun and enjoying the local scenery, pace is moderate, by no
 means a
hammer fest, but the climbing will likely test your endurance.

I am looking forward to riding with all of you, meeting some new
friends and sharing some of the best riding our region has to offer.

47 miles and 3700 feet of climbing. Start is in Ventura, Up the

drop back into Ojai, then home through a combination of country roads

loop a bit from years past, and you can see this year's route here:

 http://ridewithgps.com/routes/**2159896http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2159896

47 miles and 3700 feet of climbing. Start is in Ventura, Up the River
Trail to sulphur Mtn where it is a 10 mile dirt climb, with a great drop
back into Ojai, then home through a combination of country roads and the
river trail.

[RBW] Re: April 7 SoCal Rive Ride in Ventura

2013-02-21 Thread shawn m.
Oh, man. I'd LOVE to do this ride. I called Ojai home once upon a time, and
rode my 10-speed to Matilija Junior High everyday. It would be awesome to
revisit that area again, especially by bike. It's a long way from Seattle,
but... hmm...

Save the Date, if you still can, and have the time to make it to our

this year's Sulphur Mtn loop out of Ventura. I revised the back end of the
loop a bit from years past, and you can see this year's route here:

 http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2159896

47 miles and 3700 feet of climbing. Start is in Ventura, Up the River
Trail to sulphur Mtn where it is a 10 mile dirt climb, with a great drop
back into Ojai, then home through a combination of country roads and the
river trail.

Re: [RBW] Re: April 7 SoCal Rive Ride in Ventura

2013-02-20 Thread cyclotourist
The drive down the 101 is pretty nice... if you're going to do a roadtrip,
it's a good one!

Would be great if you and/or anyone else could make it down!

Save the Date, if you still can, and have the time to make it to our
little part of the SoCal playground. April 7 is gelling as the date for
this year's Sulphur Mtn loop out of Ventura. I revised the back end of the
loop a bit from years past, and you can see this year's route here:

 http://ridewithgps.com/routes/**2159896http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2159896

47 miles and 3700 feet of climbing. Start is in Ventura, Up the River
Trail to sulphur Mtn where it is a 10 mile dirt climb, with a great drop
back into Ojai, then home through a combination of country roads and the
river trail.
