[RBW] Re: Balance Bike Delight
Mike, Put a smile on my face reading about it. Patrick, Congrats on the whole family being ready for Clementines! 10 years ago my youngest was struggling to ride a bike. I wasn’t clued into to balance bikes, so I picked up a 2 wheel razor scooter for $5 at a yard sale. He learned the principles of balance riding that and then took effortlessly to a two wheel bike. [RBW] Re: Balance Bike Delight
We started our girls on a balance bike as well. I took a small child's bike, removed the "training wheels," pedals, and the crank and chain. They loved it. They would wiz about the yard. One possible drawback was that after removing the crank, the bike had no brakes, since it was only equipped with a coaster brake. So when they grew into a pedal bike, they still tended to stop with the toes of their shoes. It still worked out, and I was glad they were spared the unnecessary scrapes, bruises, and (in my case) a chipped tooth in learning to ride the 'traditional' way. Also, they had a blast riding around on the balance bike, which was just about the best outdoor toy they had. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: Balance Bike Delight
That's great. My daughter never really took to the balance bike. We were out one day and a neighbor and I started talking bikes and he just gave us a kids bike. His daughter had outgrown it. My daughter was so excited about the bike that she made me take her to the schoolyard up the street and basically just started riding. It was so weird. That was back in Sept after she turned 4. Just last week we rode to and from daycare. It's 2 miles each way. She was a champ. I'm super looking forward to riding with her more this summer. But that day she first rode her bike. I'll cherish it always, not so much because of my love of bikes but because she was so darn happy. --mike -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
