The funny thing is that a friend of mine was involved in some sword crafting and sparring with Neal and others over the past 7 or 8 years now. They started out by building a lot of their swords and armor out of carbon fibre, but have since gone to steel due to failures. I don't have much more info than that, but carbon as an impact material is not as resilient as our friend steel.
