[RBW] Re: Detail photos of the new Riv Sam Hillborne
Hey Eric, Yes, I tried to ensure that the color was a accurate as possible. The frame has a really rich metallic green ... something that is unique but by no means gaudy. Both the decals and the fork detail is a rich cream color, and the bands around the decals are a purplish blue. Bryan @ Renaissance Bicycles On May 1, 8:23 pm, EricP ericpl...@aol.com wrote: Thanks. [RBW] Re: Detail photos of the new Riv Sam Hillborne
RBW has put out some excellent greens over the years. The Hillborne is very eye catching, but so were the stock color green editions of the Rambouillet and Quickbeam. I am very fond of the metallic sage green of my early Saluki too. It came to me from another cyclist, so I don't know it it was a stock or special color. From: Bill Connell bconn...@gmail.com Not to pick on the silver Quickbeam (since the silver and new decals have already taken some abuse), but the color and graphics on the Hillbourne beat it hands-down. -- Bill Connell St. Paul, MN --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: Detail photos of the new Riv Sam Hillborne
Right, but i don't think those clamps will fit these bikes, unless they have the old skinnier downtubes. It seems like the last time this topic went around (maybe it was the BOB list), there isn't a clamp available for oversize steel tubing. That's a lovely frame - thanks for excellent photos, Bryan. The details on this bike are really lovely. The top head tube lug in particular is so nice that it's almost an afterthought that it also has a practical extension to it. Not to pick on the silver Quickbeam (since the silver and new decals have already taken some abuse), but the color and graphics on the Hillbourne beat it hands-down. -- Bill Connell St. Paul, MN On Sat, May 2, 2009 at 4:25 PM, James Warren jimcwar...@earthlink.net wrote: You can't go doing too many things that will raise the price. The pictures are nice, and it appears quite the bike. Until looking at these, I had somehow missed altogether the Hillborne is not set up for braze on down tube shifters though. It seems those of us who still prefer DT shifters are getting farther and fewer between, as I cannot recall this being discussed. Which is why they still have the Hilsen. I myself don't like downtube shifters anymore, but I remember once having no problem mounting one of those clamp-on things to hold them on an old Trek that didn't have the braze-ons. Well there is a point! For the Simplex afficianado, it is somewhat easier to find clamp on shifters with the sunburst design than braze- on. The collectors who have scarfed up the sunburst braze on shifters are very reluctant to give them up. And to be clear, I am not trying to be negative at all. I was just a tad surprised how marginal DT shifters have become. On May 2, 4:25 pm, James Warren jimcwar...@earthlink.net wrote: You can't go doing too many things that will raise the price. [RBW] Re: Detail photos of the new Riv Sam Hillborne
i'm thinking a lugged frameset with sloping top tube is a good GP idea. if for no other reason, to the best of my knowledge, the only other readily available sloping lugs come at quite the price from Kirk Pacenti and maybe Waterford. See a Sam in person, you might want one more than ya think. The green is good too. I want one with black saddle and muted blue bar tape.
