Had to do some digging, but it turns out it was a prototype for a road bike 
(brand was 17teeth, frames were built several years ago in taiwan). One of 
the LBS' in Sac picked them up through a friend. It's a beautiful frame up 
close, seems pretty well made, and it's a simple bike that can be built in 
some fun ways, which was why I got it. 

It's not a super light frame, but the ride is smooth with the colnago fork 
(lots of washboards on my local rides).
