[RBW] Re: First Riv Ride
While I've corresponded with many list members over the years it was nice to actually meet and ride with one. Tom is a great addition to our Owners Bunch. He's no newcomer to cycling, but it was cool to see his first ride on a Rivendell bike. Tom hopped on the Saluki and took off down the block. As he headed back I could see the smile. I hopped on my custom and we were gone, as Tom said, for over an hour. We swapped bikes a few times along the way. We Just Rode, I had a great time. Hopefully he'll have his Sam soon. - Frank On Saturday, March 30, 2013 9:23:06 PM UTC-4, Tom Goodmann wrote: On a spectacular day here in south Florida, I enjoyed an excellent afternoon, thanks to Frank Neff (of this board), who dropped by with his Saluki (Albatross bars 650b wheels) and his Riv custom (Nitto Noodles 700c) so that I could get some feel for a couple of these bikes. We tooled around the area of suburban streets and the nearby U of Miami campus for over an hour . . . I had no doubts about my recent purchase of a Sam frame, but now I have a little experience under that impression, based on two different bikes and bars. As we are about the same size, no adjustments were necessary moving between the two bikes. All I can say is, Wow! The Saluki felt all-day comfortable, right off (I think the saddle was a B68, very nice in the upright riding position), and the Riv custom, with a B17 and the Noodles . . . felt like it was made for me (sorry, Frank). The shifting on both bikes was nearly effortless; I had brought along old memories of friction shifters of less-than-Campy quality, and the silver shifters on both bikes dispelled those thoughts immediately, making shifts as easily as anything indexed; in fact, with more pleasure. I already understood why some of us end up owning several bikes; now I understand why some readers wind up with a roomful of Rivs. Many thanks, Frank! --Tom -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Re: [RBW] Re: First Riv Ride
Having already bought one of the Sam frames on sale, I'm now down for one of the already-built complete bikes that appeared today . . . though I hesitated for a moment between the double TT (painted blue in error) and the single TT frame (correctly painted, but missing that second TT) . . . meanwhile, the 59 Heron from the auction site should be here on Monday! Has anyone figured out how to ride two at once? Thanks again, Frank. Hope to meet more of you down the road. Re: [RBW] Re: First Riv Ride
Thank god someone got that awesome Heron, I was ready to sell one of my collection to justify another purchase. With an anniversary, my wife's birthday and Mother's Day coming up in the next month though I did fear for my life, haha. [RBW] Re: First Riv Ride
Sounds like fun, Tom! Frank must be a great guy. We've ridden in quite a few local cycling events, and thus far my wife's Betty seems to be the only Rivendell in Fort Wayne. [RBW] Re: First Riv Ride
I'll second a kudos to Frank. I took a first ride yesterday on an Atlantis I recently purchased from him. It was one of the most pleasant purchases I've participated in. More to come, but thanks Frank! Tim S Louisville Atlantis Quickbeam -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: First Riv Ride
Ben, I have a new B17 (from Ken Mattina on this list) and am comfortable on it so far; I will get another, or switch it over to my 56 Sam when it is built, along with Albatross bars with cable splitters; I have a pair of used Nitto Noodles here that I hope to change out with the Albatross bars from time time, along with different tires. And, yes, the kindness of another member here was remarkable--there a lot of good folks around, as we know; nonetheless a high percentage of such on this list.
