Re: [RBW] Re: First Riv in the wild
Passed two known (to me) Riv's, Ed and Mary on their SimpleOne and Quickbeam SS bikes this morning close the the Jefferson Memorial... I'm looking forward to catching them for the #FridayCoffeeClub at Swings in downtown DC. This week will be my first on the Atlantis! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Re: [RBW] Re: First Riv in the wild
Riv-Spotting! Awesome idea... this might be a good 'sticky'! I caught sight of a gorgeous tall iridescent blue riv, white/cream headtube and the headbage was the Rivendell 'RBW' one the gentleman riding it was headed east into DC on the WOD trail near Falls Church, VA. Looked like he was commuting and as I was out for a recreational ride the other direction we didn't get to chat. I was also riding my grey Trek so it wouldn't have been 'riv on riv' anyway. Still, very cool! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Re: [RBW] Re: First Riv in the wild
I saw a pretty green vintage Rivendell (probably a road standard), locked (locked!) in front of Monterrey Market in Berkeley yesterday morning. I was preparing to make a crossing onto the North bound PCH when I saw another bearded gentleman on a AHH. Curtis was on his new magnificent dbl top tubed Hilsen we chatted for 45 minutes about his Hilsen, light weight camping and future Riv rides, it was great as Curtis said to meet another like minded individual. Looking forward to more Riv inspired fun rides. We had a great talk and after about 45 minutes or so he went north and I continued south. It was great to meet a like minded rider and compare bikes and ideas. Hugh took some pictures to document the chance meeting. What great people one can meet on a bike. Ride often and ride safe. [RBW] Re: First Riv in the wild
Would you consider a bike shop 'The Wild' ? There may be a better chance of encountering another Rivendell at a shop than on the road... Anyhow, while having some work done at the Golden Saddle Cyclery in Silverlake , a fellow came in with a 60+ cm Hilsen of the same vintage as mine. Weird! I guess St Louis is becoming a meca for Rivs. as I've seen many not counting the three friends who have purchased them. That or St Louis is small enough we can't hide from each other. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Re: Silverlake - we were wandering around Silverlake on foot one day passed a bike rack in front of a restaurant (wish I could recall the name). Anyway, many cool bikes locked up there but all of a sudden the cream head tube on one stood out. It was Rivendell custom the same color as David's, that subtle silvery-blue from early in the century. I honestly would not have noticed it for the cream head tube. Subtle, but effective. dougP On Monday, July 8, 2013 5:17:40 PM UTC-7, Evan Spacht wrote: Would you consider a bike shop 'The Wild' ? Re: [RBW] Re: First Riv in the wild
This thread is timely. As I rode home last Wednesday I met up and rode for a bit with a near neighbor that rides a beautiful Sam-orange Atlantis. As we rode we talked about the Riv's that we see in our small area of Indianapolis. As of the last spotting we have seen 4 Quickbeams, 2 Atlantis (i?), a older custom in a deep red, and a beautiful fully-racked and tweed-bagged Saluki. I will get the color of the Saluki wrong, but it looked to me like a platinum. The Saluki was sitting outside a shop, and I confess that I tried to find the owner, and hurriedly looked around the handful of shops at the end of my street looking for a likely suspect. I came out of one shop in time to see a man ride off on the bike. Counting me and my Hunqapillar, that is 9 Riv's in a small area of Indianapolis. That said, I will proudly note that Indianapolis has been receiving national attention as a rising cycling town. Who would have thought..., but it fits,Indianapolis was where the first American-made bicycle chain was made! Must be a beard thing with AHH's Curtis. I saw Hugh's pictures and thought these guys must know each other. Your bikes looks great too. I live just north of there in Carlsbad now. and Leah... I used to live in Santa Clarita and ride a Ram. I never saw another Riv my whole time living there. ~mike -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Mike, but we saw plenty of carbon and spandex, didn't we? Would have liked to meet more steel steeds but will try my luck in Vegas.
