[RBW] Re: First weekend of riding... ouch.

2016-05-17 Thread IanA
That collarbone will bother you for a while. I broke mine (Superman landing
over the handlebars when front wheel locked in a crack in the road). The
bone knitted back together relatively quickly and came back together
straight, but I think the muscles and tendons take quite a bit longer to
regain strength. A longer ride would bother the shoulder, but pretty sure
only because of the muscle atrophy in the area. As part of your back to
bike regimen, add in regular sets of push-ups and other strength building
techniques. Ron's comments about core strength are good to keep in mind on
and off the bike.

Best wishes for the continuing healing process and get the strength back as
soon as possible.

Re: [RBW] Re: First weekend of riding... ouch.

2016-05-16 Thread cyclotourist
Thanks, Ron! I tried to keep that in mind, not sure what wasn't working. I
think the distance with those bars I'm not used to. Whenever I ride with
them extensively, they cause shoulder aches. They're fine and good for
short hops 'round town, but not 25 milers IMHO.

DP, I did feel good, so kept going! Nothing terribly bad, but I'm imagining
I'm not helping the healing process along too much...

Doug, it was this great weather... just couldn't stay at home any longer!
Luckily I had the endurance to do a 17 then 25er, but better take it easy...
