[RBW] Re: ISO used, wind-blocking, UV blocking, decent quality cycling shades
I've spent my entire career at microscopes and have taken care of my eyes (don't understand people who don't use filters when looking through a microscope). I've always taken care of my eyes. I drive in Serengetis, fish in Smiths and Costas. I have no worries bicycling in Smiths. On Thursday, December 11, 2014 11:41:37 PM UTC-6, hangtownmatt wrote: Jim, I couldn't agree more. RE: [RBW] Re: ISO used, wind-blocking, UV blocking, decent quality cycling shades
Also, Maui Jim absolutely stands behind their products – my wife, who is very hard on sunglasses, has gotten at least three replacement pairs free from MJ in circumstances where the could certainly have raised a beef, but did not. Very good customer service, and very, very nice products. No financial or other interest of any kind in MJ. [RBW] Re: ISO used, wind-blocking, UV blocking, decent quality cycling shades
Thanks for all the suggestions; much to follow up on. The comments on UV protection lead me to believe that it might be best to buy a brand name. I've got a pair of Tifosi transitional lens shades that were cheap (~$35) at Nashbar and they're fine. I see that this marque is often on sale in the N catalogue. Question: Do these have adequate UV protection? How does one know? If Tifosi is a good choice, does anyone have suggestions for the best Tifosi model? (I want 2 pairs because one is always somewhere else when I need it.) Thanks again. Dude, it's your eyes. Don't be half-assed. Optometrists will have a UV meter, which is the only way you can be sure the glasses are blocking UV. And try them on in person so you know they fit. jim m wc ca On Wednesday, December 10, 2014 7:06:06 PM UTC-8, Patrick Moore wrote: Does anyone have a pair to sell cheap, or to trade? I have a big noggin, and it definitely matters what size shades I buy. I don't play when it comes to something I wear all the time, so I spend the money on nice Oakleys. I'm not Asian, but Asian fit Oakleys work best for me..I currently use Race Jackets for cycling, Two Face for driving and whatnot. Good stuff. I've had good luck with Sunclouds. They're a sub-brand of Smith, the lens quality is really good, and they tend to be pretty light and comfortable in my opinion. I don't really trust the UV protection on the cheap knockoffs. REI sells them, as well as lots of internet vendors. Jim, I couldn't agree more. It is your EYES! Patrick, you already had cataract surgery so you know your eyes are vulnerable. Protect them! By-the-way, your replacement lens implants have UV protection built in. Your primary focus now should be wind, dust and general debris protection. But don't cheap out. Quality is always worth it in the long run. I opted for a pair of Maui Jim's. Not only do they protect they actually enhance vision.
