[RBW] Re: Mini Davis "Tour"
Here's the rough route of how we went about or trip. Not including getting lost a hand full of number of times. My little brother did this same route a couple of weeks ago with a couple of his buddies. But they start from davis and rode on fixed gears. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=1+Ferry+Building,+San+Francisco,+CA+94111+(Embarcadero+Bart)&daddr=101+Peacock+Gap+Trail,+San+Rafael,+CA+94901+(China+Camp+State+Park)+to:CA-116+W%2FStage+Gulch+Rd+to:Partrick+Rd+to:38.319033,-122.085571+to:Davis,+CA&geocode=Fdi2QAIdmGy0-CE2YhTLJYThyA%3BFTHcQwIdEl-z-CGbXzUiMKolFQ%3BFZhuRwIdmGKy-A%3BFTaESAIdtka1-A%3B%3BFQomTAIdG2O--Ck_VJWUmSmFgDH_j-JuGz8Bww&hl=en&mra=dpe&mrcr=1&mrsp=4&sz=10&via=2,3,4&dirflg=b&sll=38.297481,-122.257233&sspn=0.559354,1.234589&ie=UTF8&ll=38.04701,-122.534637&spn=0.56128,1.234589&z=10&lci=bike On Jul 9, 12:43 pm, Seth Vidal wrote: > On Fri, Jul 9, 2010 at 3:40 PM, Anne Paulson wrote: > > Cyclotourists who happen to be in that general area and lacking > > camping reservations can always camp at New Brighton State Beach, nine > > miles north. > > Wait - so only David E is allowed? > > :) > -sv -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Cyclotourists who happen to be in that general area and lacking camping reservations can always camp at New Brighton State Beach, nine miles north. It has a hiker/biker area, which in touring season generally contains half a dozen or so bike tourists every day. Also, cyclotourists in that general area should not miss Gayles Bakery and Rosticceria, on Bay Avenue in Capitola, just off the Soquel Drive main cycling route, strategically located about a mile from New Brighton. The hungry cyclist can unpack and set up her tent, zip over to Gayles for dinner, then make another Gayles outing the next morning for breakfast. Manny of course knows this, but those unfamiliar with the local geography should realize that while Aptos and Capitola are 45 miles or so south of San Jose, there is a small matter of a minor mountain range in between. Riv content-- both of my Atlantises have been parked outside Gayles a time or two. It's a mere ninety mile round trip from my house, well worth a day trip. Or an overnight. My new Roadeo needs to be introduced to the wonders of Gayles. -- -- Anne Paulson My hovercraft is full of eels -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Hope you got a chance to gain some elevation on the China Camp Trails. 30 minutes of climbing should put you about here - http://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclofiend/4533493801/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclofiend/238919279/ As far as the route through southern marin county, I'd nudge you a little west once you hit the end of the Mill Valley bike path - you went over Horse Hill by the freeway and then looped around East Sir Francis Drake. That section by San Quentin Prison can be a little hairy, especially crossing over to pick up Anderson (the descent by the sewage treatment plant, which has its own "charm"), which is in turn fairly industrial. You can pick up Camino Alto (or turn left on Tamalpais Ave if you use the Horse Hill option) and end up on Magnolia Ave. Follow that, or there's a separated bike path on the old rail route you can follow to Kentfield, then head through Ross and San Anselmo into San Rafael, where you can get back to looping around Peacock Gap/China Camp Village on the way to the campground. [RBW] Re: Mini Davis "Tour"
Manny, Another great 'Manny' ride! It would be nifty if you could post maps/route sheets of these adventures. They are inspiring and enticing. Cheers, JimD My buddy and I decided out of the blue to go on a tour to see my brother in Davis. So we packed up out stuff and rode without know how to get there. We started in San Francisco and stayed at China Camp. Which has an awesome hike/bike campsite. Then we biked/got lost 120 miles to Davis and stayed at my brother's place. Since it was our first century we decided to give out legs some rest so we took the amtrak home. Nice way to spend three days. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mannyacosta/sets/72157624322637583/ -Manny " Let just go" Acosta -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Nice pics. Sunny, but noticed you guys were wearing sweat shirts. It has been brutal hot and humid here in Chicago the last week. Supposedly cooler/dryer weather is on the way. Cannot wait. Great pics Manny! Looks like you guys had fun. If you decide to head south, Manresa beach (south of SC) is a great place to stay (reservations recommended). The site is about 45-50 miles south of Santa Jose. --Eddie On Jul 7, 8:23 pm, manueljohnacosta wrote: > My buddy and I decided out of the blue to go on a tour to see my > brother in Davis.
