Toshi, your Hilsen looks beautiful and ready to do some brevets. I'm
sure it'll serve you well.

Love that blue! Was it custom?

I originally had a Brooks Swift saddle on it, but I couldn't get it to
feel right. Perhaps it's because I am slightly more upright than my
other bikes, and I am setting my seat far back because that feels most
comfortable, since I am able to get the weight off my hands. I got a
Nitto lugged seatpost because it has extra setback. Brooks saddles
don't have long rails, and for the Swift, I pushed it as far back as
it would go, but maybe that wasn't enough. Also the seat is not as
wide as the Rivet Pearl, so as more weight goes backwards, I think the
extra width helps in the comfort. In all fairness, maybe a B17 would
have been good too, but perhaps the shorter length of the Brooks rails
could have been an issue. Of course, the owner of Rivet Saddles is a
local rider who I have finished some adventures with, so I'm happy to
be an early adopter, especially when their product is working so well
 for me.

I'll keep training and am looking forward to my first brevet on the
 bike in June!

[RBW] Re: My new A Homer Hilsen feels perfect!

2012-05-02 Thread Christian
I don't have a Rivendell, but I do have a Rivet. I like mine a lot too. I
got it on a Monday and rode a 300K on Saturday the same week with two short
rides in between. The leather is THICK and there is no sag or flaring at
all. That was my problem with the SAA--way too of both. I know others
love them. My B17 saddles have all begun to sag and flare out. I am very
happy with my Rivet so far.

Best wishes,

Christian

Re: [RBW] Re: My new A Homer Hilsen feels perfect!

2012-05-02 Thread Toshi Takeuchi
Thanks! It's a 54 cm AHH. My PBH is 79.0 cm.

The standover on the AHH with 650bx38mm Pacenti Pari Motos is about
the same as my 54 cm Ram with 700c x32mm Paselas. It's a little tight,
but I definitely made the right choice of frame size given the amount
of stem/seat post showing. I have a long torso compared to my legs,
so that helps me fit the bigger frame size better.

It's a good size to use with the Acorn bag too. As the frames get
bigger, the cue sheets get harder to read, since the bag position gets
lower...

I got a Nitto lugged seatpost because it has extra setback.

That is a great justification to put such a beautiful component on that
lovely frame!
