It was a fun event and I didn't even ride my bicycle! I arrived early
Friday and left before lunch Saturday. Rained like hell Friday afternoon
and all night Friday into Saturday. Huge turnout all the same. I still had
lots of fun visiting with people and making new friends. Justin, it was
great to meet you. I wish I'd stuck around to ride with you all.

great meeting Eric Marth in person as well as hanging and riding with

lean-to's were lifesavers for staying relatively dry Friday night.

I mean, my Paul center pulls work SO well, but...it would be super fun to go
canti...listen:

I have a spare Cheviot fork - it's a LITTLE bent, barely noticeable but it
knocked my brake pads into the rubber of my tire (popped the tire) so it's
functional but not with center pulls.
Should we do an experiment? Kai, want to try it? Sounds really good to me.

[RBW] Re: Nutmeg Nor'Easter

2018-10-23 Thread Tim Bantham
I too attended the Nutmeg Nor'Easter. It was fantastic connecting with so
many Riv friends. In addition to existing friends I met Anton with the
orange Cheviot with Bosco Bars, my friend Al from Saratoga had the other
orange Cheviut. I met Alex from Yellow Haus bikes with his very cool MIT
Atlantis. I met a guy named Mike who moved East from San Francisco. He had
an Atlantis that he had converted to disc brakes. It was such an awesome
looking bike. Mike had stories of riding with Will, Roman, Kevan, Spencer
and Jay. Ronaldo Romance was a most gracious host. He and his fellow
Nutmeg Country Emissaries where so kind and gracious welcoming us into
their back yard with open arms. My weapon of choice was my Albatross'd 2TT
Sam Hillborne. Next year I'll ride my Appaloosa just to have the luxury of
fatter tires on some of the more rugged off road sections.

What made this rice enjoyable to me was the people I got to hang out with.
I don't go to cycling events anymore because they have become to much like
a race. This was not that at all. Super fun yet challenging course, a beer
stop along the way, idyllic New England coastal towns and low traffic.
There were no egos, no testosterone fueled pacelines and nobody demanding
that I perform a certain way. Just a bunch of bike camping/ commuting/rando
loving, normal clothes wearing bike nerds. In other words people just like
me! The icing on the cake was the amazing wood fired pizza after party
served under a gorgeous sunset over the Long Island Sound. This was one of
the best days I have spent on a bike ever! I hope this event continues
into the future.

It really was an amazing time. The riders were all incredibly friendly, and
there was plenty of trail camaraderie when people got the inevitable flat.
I did the 50-miler, which was sometimes a bit too technical for a city

spoke count on my front wheel). The route was gorgeous--dappled sunlight in
pretty woods, quaint towns and houses, a few good vistas, and an awesomely
brief ferry ride. The townsfolk and drivers were also highly friendly and
considerate.
