I would really recommend reconsidering a hitch rack. Easier to install, secure, 
no paint rub/marks on the car, and they perform so much better. 
One big issue you may run into is locking your bike. With a hitch rack, it’s 
easy to do. My rack came with integrated locks. Others, just cable lock to the 
hitch. 
Also, if you have a step through bike (now or in the future), you’ll need a 
tray style rack.

This is the rack that's on the police cars here.  They look really nice for a 
trunk rack and come up frequently on Craigslist for about $40.

We've used one of these for 15 years with no complaints.
It has worked on a VW Golf, Ford Escape, and Subaru Crosstrek.
5 minutes to put on, 3 minutes to take off (if you want to store it in the 
car while you ride).
