[RBW] Re: Rockapillar....Bombalized....Hunqa Hopper?

2011-04-23 Thread Montclair BobbyB
Specs originated from CandlePowerForums and several people have used
this circuit designed by Martin Schmidt -
http://www.pilom.com/BicycleElectronics/DynamoCircuits.htm

My friend is an EE and he constructed it; otherwise I have no clue.
The circuit board was designed for the DIYer using readily available
components, and as such it's not so compact (compared to the Schmidt,
BM and E3 LED dynamo lights on the market). This requires housing
the circuitry in a separate (in this case) tube. The output of this
light is awesome... super bright. There is no standlight so I would
always use a small battery-LED light as an auxiliary for when I stop.

For a DIY dynamo light, this one is pretty amazing with the amount of
light it produces. There are 4 LEDs (CREE) packed together on one
tiny chip.

[RBW] Re: Rockapillar....Bombalized....Hunqa Hopper?

2011-04-23 Thread EricP
Am late to this thread - that's a great looking bike. Even has the
original pedals. Kept switching back to them in my old mountain bike
days. I wanted one of those Rockhoppers oh so bad when they came
out. Ended up buying a year or two older Stumpjumper frame instead
and building it up. Always am jealous when I see those bikes.

And Bobby - like always, your Stumpy is a beautiful bike.

2011-04-22 Thread Michael_S
I belive it's an '85. They made a two colors ...the red and the blue
that I owned. It was the 1st year they introduced the Rockhopper. I
took the bullmoose off after a year or two and rode drop bars on it
for a while. Eventually I sold it to my brother-in-law and he still
rides it ( well sometimes). I should buy it back and restore it.
hmmm.

It was a fun bike to ride and took me a lot of new places.

WOW!! You have that thing fitted spot on! The Fat Franks never even
crossed my mind. I feel pretty lucky to have scored this one. Like
you, I've had a few old Specialized bikes in my time, but they all
seemed to be beat up and nowhere near originally built. It makes me
feel like I should put on the cut off denims, hiking boots, welding
gloves, and Bell V1-Pro before taking off!
