I think your DIY turned out really nicely. Quite handsome and understated.
Your Sammy is a looker too

Being envious of all the great DIY projects displayed here, I've taken
some baby steps. In the works for some time, I purchased from c.l. a '94
jamis diablo steel mountain bike with one lug. From Rivendell I acquired
Big Apple 26' 2.15 tires (back when they were still being sold), Bosco
bars, new stem, thin steel grey pedals (look much better in person than in
pictures), redid all cables(first time), put on grey cloth tape(Newbaums)
that I was going to use on a different bike, amber shellac which I
mistakenly thought would make it dark grey, and twined in 4 places. The
burlap-y brown color accents the lettering on the bike as well as the
bell--I like that combination with the mainly all black bike. The first
side I taped was a little off kilter but the second side was, to me,
noticeably better. Anyway, I took it out today to ride and photograph and
I apparently have a very comfortable, upright riding, big tired bike to add
to my Sam and '93 Bridgestone X-04 local errand bike. I'm not finished with
it yet but here is the work in progress.
