[RBW] Re: Sunday S24O
I love the large Saddleack, Erl. So easy to pack, strap tent et al on top, and still access everything. When I add panniers for longer and/or colder trips, I'll stuff the least frequently used items in them as they are the most challenging to both access and remember what is where. WIth the large Saddlesack, it's all in one place and easy to access and thus uses far less brain energy (a BIG deal for my wimpy noggin). My Cotton Analogy rain gear by Hilltrek is due to arrive this week. I am looking forward to testing it out in our current monsoon season we are having (frequent boomers that dump a lot of rain and or hail). It's supposed to breathe as well as single layer ventile, but has a liner that works like fur to actively put any moisture that gets through back out. So, perfect for aerobic activity in wet and cold. My single layer ventile soaks through (made by Orvis and I hacked it up to make it lighter, so it's not made by a ventile specialist company and I may have diminished it's effectiveness with my hacks). The new stuff is tested for 3 cm of rain per hour, which my current jacket definitely soaks through with. It's median cost for a quality Goretex jacket, should be equally effective and far more breathable, thus keeping me dryer. I'll second Deacon's comment regarding how easy it is to deal with. When you strap a tent + pad with the loops, you can still flip the bag open and access everything inside. And because it's wider than taller, most things are REALLY accessible without disturbing the pack. And, like discussed before, it overstuffs like nobody's business. cc On Mon, Jul 8, 2013 at 4:44 PM, Deacon Patrick lamontg...@mac.com wrote: I love the large Saddleack, Erl. Photos like that make we want to move someplace with lots of trees maybe even real weather (gotta think on that a bit). Capturing a rainbow is a real bonus. So often what our eye sees ends up looking sorta eh? in the photo. dougP On Monday, July 8, 2013 1:08:00 PM UTC-7, Deacon Patrick wrote: I should have escaped 4th of July weekend on Thursday, but I wasn't that smart, so the town noise overloaded my brain and capacity to escape till Sunday morning. Deacon, I thought about you on the 4th and hoped you had gone into the high country. I know too many people that need to escape that noise. I am glad you found relief - albeit a bit late! Re: [RBW] Re: Sunday S24O
Thanks, Bob. All the thoughts and prayers help! No fireworks here due to fire danger and (I presume) budget issues. For me, the issue is four days of music at night and loud motorcycles of the testicularly challenged. Just blows up what little there is of my brain. Someday maybe we'll move out of this megalopolis of 700 year round residents (doubles in summer) and live all the time in blissful isolation. Thanks, Doug. I sometimes wonder if I should hit you guys with another outing's photos, but I figure I live vicariously though other's ride reports and photos when I can't get out (whatever the reason) so perhaps someone will enjoy them. I sometimes wonder if I should hit you guys with another outing's photos. In the winter, I feel the same constraint. When people are discussing snowfall, studded tires and extreme clothing, I hold off talking about rides where I have to wear a windbreaker over a wool jersey, req'd once the air temp drops below the ocean temp here in SoCal. Keep 'em coming, Patrick. This site is attracting a lot of good photos. It's a beautiful world out there! dougP On Monday, July 8, 2013 7:32:34 PM UTC-7, Deacon Patrick wrote: Thanks, Doug.
