I'm with you, Chris... I too enjoy a nice, leisurely dismount, including unhurriedly unpacking whatever I need from my saddlebag. Having said that, I really love my Carradice Super C, mainly for its heavy-dutiness, but also I appreciate the fastex buckles for their ease of use. I also have a Zimbale bag or two, which has buckles and quick-release straps... I love the buckle look, but appreciate the ease of use... I just unfasten it slowly. As for handlebar bags, I'm still adapting... I have a VO Campagne bag and have been fumbling with its flimsiness on a front rack (I DON'T use a decaleur, which is part of the challenge)... I will be testing out a new bag rack (that fits on the canti posts, and seems to be half rack, half decaleur). Will also install some additional stiffeners inside the bag. [RBW] Re: The Perfect Bag
When I had a Campagne bag, I found that outfitting it with coroplast stiffeners made a huge difference, and I was using a decaleur. A 1-part stiffener made of appropriately folded coroplast (fold along the channels to create a front, bottom, and back) works well. A man after my own heart--bag improvements! I finally decided saddlebags didn't work for me, but I am always in pursuit of the ultimate handlebar bag! BTW, both my Saluki Ram are indifferent to either the Acorn bag in the front and the Barley Bag on the SQR behind the seat. So which to use? I like the convenience of the front bags. They open and close easily, and are right there when I strip off arm warmers or reach for a wind/rain break. But when I stop at a store or a cafe they are cumbersome to get off then back on the bike. I like the spaciousness of the big seat bags and the SQR is absolutely the fastest on and off the bike. When I was commuting I often would get it off the bike and be on my way much faster than guys could get there bad packs off. But the buckles on the Barley bag were annoying. It seemed like every time I finished buckling it up I remembered something else that needed to go in. Today we installed hidden releases under the buckles, so now the bags open quickly, even if they aren't right at my finger tips as I ride along. https://www.icloud.com/photostream/#A255Z2WMJX49q Michael -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: The Perfect Bag
the perfect bag is a short-term answer to an instantaneous need. It may be the same for the next ride, it may be different. The more choices the merrier.
