[RBW] Re: WTB: rear wheel, 700c, 135mm wide, 9 speed compatible, rim brake, quick release

2020-03-16 Thread MAP
Hi Abe & everyone,

If there any "leftover offers" from this search of a 700c black Velocity
Cliffhanger 36h (wheel or rim only), please let me know.
I did take note of the Treefort Bikes offer - it appears to still be
available.

Thanks.

[RBW] Re: WTB: rear wheel, 700c, 135mm wide, 9 speed compatible, rim brake, quick release

2019-12-03 Thread Pancake
A couple folks reached out but my temptation to try tubeless resulted in a
new wheelset from UniversalCycles:
Alex Adventurer 2

 rims
(21mm internal, 26mm external width)
Deore T610 hubs (all they have in stock, would prefer T670 / LX hubs or
T780 / XT hubs)
DT Swiss Competition spokes / nipples
Velocity VeloTape Tubeless conversion kit $23
*After some discounts and cashback madness it'll come out to about $255 for
a new wheelset that will be tubeless and fit my Snoqualmie Pass tires
nicely *from my Sam Hillborne.
... Sam's current rear wheel (Atlas rim, LX hub, DT butted spokes) swapped
to my Cheviot.
... Cheviot's rear wheel (Mavic A319, deore hub, straight spokes) will go
to my brother-in-law's bike.
... and I'll have a spare front wheel to sell and now that's posted to
craigslist.

Thanks for the offers and help folks! This bike is coming along, just
waiting on shipments of the crankset, rear wheel swap, and picking
handlebars in Oakland this weekend.

*Well, I guess I'm still looking for a shorter quill stem ... 5-8cm quill
stem to sell anyone?*

Photos to the list when it's finished.

Thanks for the wheel suggestion Abe! Good luck on the hunt for used, but if
that doesn't work, might Treefort do a similarly priced skinnier wheel? $145 is
a crazy good price for what you get.

2019-12-02 Thread Pancake
Thanks Kai, I think I may have been the one to refer you to that wheel
originally when I was looking into tubeless with Snoqualmie tires. But I'm
hoping someone on the list has something for a bit lower cost and a bit
narrower rim.

If no one on the list has a silver bullet like above hanging in their
garage I'll probably get a wheel built by Universal Cycles again, something
like:
Alex Adventurer 2

rims (21mm internal, 26mm external width)
Deore T610 hubs (all they have in stock, would prefer T670 / LX hubs or
T780 / XT hubs)
DT Swiss Competition spokes / nipples
32mm tubeless valves and Stans Yellow tape
That would free up my current rear wheel after swapping around with the
wheels on my Hillborne, switch around a few cassettes and I'm done for
about $275 and maybe less if I sell the old front wheel that would go
during the tubeless swap.

But I'd rather get something with more silver and better hubs for less used
... so still looking.
