Fantastic! It is amazing how the "little details" of saddle, pedals, racks, 
bags, lights, bartape, tubes, tools, etc. add up, especially when you have 
multiple riders in one family budget (we have six on ours).

That's a good suggestion, Garth.

The only other difference (as far as I know) between the M18 and M1 is the
M1 also has a plate on the front to attach a light.

Regardless, many prefer to use a strut (commonly made from a centerpull
brake arm , a
purpose-made imitation , or a bent
mount
)
from one of the strut bolts.

A light mounted to the plate on the front of the M1 will limit you to a bag
that is no longer than the platform, whereas a light mounted to the strus
bolt can be lowered to clear a big bag or basket.

Jon, can't you use the M18($90 wshipping) rack for the Sam ?   The Sam does 
not have the top fork crown attachments anyways so don't you have to attach 
it with the center tang anyways ?  Just trying to understand why the M1 is

pop up every other now and then for around $100 (but be quick, 'cause this 
group moves fast!). If you need it now, skip a dinner out and buy it from 
Rivendell, along with some handlebar tape or loose bits to get the "free" 
shipping and Bob's your uncle in a safe of houses. Grin.

Riv does have em in stock now, but I thought I'd check the list first  
for any used racks (this is for a budget 650B conversion project). If  
not I'll end up ordering a new one.

Check Rivendell HQ personally. two weeks ago I went to the shop to buy
a number of things and low and behold they had a mark's rack in stock
despite much claims to their website. Check with the staff sometimes
they can surprise you.
