2012-12-20 Thread Marty
OK, I jumped in and picked up a Bosco Bullmoose bar, a Marks tool wrap,
toestraps, fenders, magnets, poster, bandanas, kickstand, and a few things I
forgot. Not sure what kind of frame I'd spec. If and when, but the new bike is
interesting. I love single speeds too, and a custom 1 is a serious thought. If
and when, I may have a 64 QB and/or 60 Bombadil on the market.

2012-12-19 Thread sameness
Monstercross! I guess basically a custom Atlantis with e'er so slightly
bigger tire clearance (50+). Degree or two more slope to the top tube, such
that a 8cm Nitto stem makes a perfect 7 when the saddle is just on level
with the middle of the hooks, but still only fistful of post. Horizontal
dropouts and clamp-on downtube cable stops for clean single speeding
conversion. Clear powdercoat but with cream headtube paint. Not sure if I'm
up for having a $300+ order shipped to Australia on the sooner, so at this
point it's all (always, ever) a-boy-can-dream.

Decided to play:

2 Schwalbe extralight 700c tubes - might as well try them out
1 Small Topeak frame pump - for Amy's Betty Foy
1 Baggins rare earth magnet - stocking stuffer for a lucky person
2 RBW rare earth magnets - stocking stuffers for 2 lucky people
1 copy of Rework - good reading
1 copy of What Now - gift for confused person
1 Tange/IRD roller drive headset - replacing VO headset on the Bomba
1 small Trangia Cooket - bike camping and earthquake preparedness

total: $307

Not sure on what I would do as a custom. The level TT Hunq and the mountain
mixte are interesting ideas. But maybe something more along the lines of an
AHH-ish frame with room for wider tires would be in the correct direction.

Too many possibilities!

I've got a pair of Marathon Supremes, a new Noddle, and some Not-So-Tights,
plus random other stuff. I thought of going the gift certificate route, but
prefer to get stuff in the mail as opposed to promises of future stuff.

My custom would probably be a Roadeo-lmost set up to fit 650b with long
reach sidepulls or 700c with standard reach. (According to the math it
should work, if you're not worrying about fenders. There could be some
catch I haven't though of, though.)

If I were to win I'd get something along the Road lines, with 57mm reach
brakes with clearance for 28's + fenders or 33-35's without, with better
geometry than my current road bike (Salsa Casseroll). I'd let Grant handle
the tubing choices since I want it to be light-ish and fast but I'm also a
big guy and like going off-pavement, so not sure I'd want something
Roadeo-light. Color would be a hard choice--I've always loved the
light-ish blues on the old Road Standards, or a solid dark (british
racing?) green, or something in the dark silvery-pewter range, like Gino's
old Saluki.

2012-12-17 Thread Eric Platt
Right now, am probably not going to enter. Just had an order recently and
while there are a few things that pique interest, not enough stuff to make
a required minimum.

But - if I did and if I were to win - wouldn't take a custom. Would rather
just get a 61cm Atlantis or maybe a Bombadil. Either of those bikes would
suit my needs. Yes, while I'd like a 61cm 26 wheel Atlantis, it's too
much against the whole Rivendell aesthetic to get something like that.

And hopefully, it would save Rivendell a bit of cash which might be
important.

Of course even admitting I would ask for such nonsense means he would kick

2012-12-16 Thread Anne Paulson
If you buy a Roadeo you won't be sorry.

BTW, speaking of orders, what do people recommend for tires for their
Roadeos? I need to put together an order of my own.

Re: [RBW] Re: What's your raffle entry consist of, and what are your plans for the prize?

2012-12-16 Thread William
My order

3x devold undies
2x MUSA wool t shirts
2x col de la vie tires
tube of phil hand cleaner

My custom:

Roadeo tubeset, Cantilever equipped, 650B road bike, painted like Anne's
Purple-'Lantis

Anne,

For Roadeo tires I'd take a look at the Clement LLG in a 28, or the new
Grand Bois Extra Leger in 700x32.

I don't have a Roadeo but I have its country cousin, Legolas. I really like
Schwalbe Ultremo ZX in 700x28. Fast, smooth, comfortable at 80 psi, and
I'll even dare say it, I haven't had a flat yet in 1,500 miles. I think of
it as a road tire, but I took it on an unexpected mixed terrain ride today
and it performed well, with only a couple of slips for lack of traction.

Re: [RBW] Re: What's your raffle entry consist of, and what are your plans for the prize?

2012-12-16 Thread James Warren

Haven't purchased yet, but I'm thinking of buying the following:

Wheelset
V brakes - but I notice that Rivendell seems to not be selling these right now
Brake pad inserts for Silvers
Some Big Ben 700 x 35 tires
Aluminum Bosco Bar if they get them in
12-36 cassette
A front derailleur
Maybe stem-mount shifters

And if I were to win a frame, then I'd be in a bind again trying to raise funds
to build it up. I think I would go with a custom made like a Roadeo and try to
build it up light and racy (SRAM 50-34 front with 12-36 rear), since I have the
beefy touring, country bike, and offroad areas covered pretty well.

I'm thinking of a Sam Hunqa-Pilson that converts into a kayak and I
can float down the river.  I'm not sure it's possible :(
