[RBW] Re: What is the most interesting thing in you parts bin?

2017-01-14 Thread Christopher Murray
I had forgotten about it (not in the sense I was suprised it was there but in
the sense I hadn't thought about it in years). I got it at a much different
time in my life and it just never got built. I probably have all the parts in
the bin. I fell in love with the Nitto Humble seat post and this bike was built
around that post and a pair of XTR brake levers.

It will get built this winter.

Cheers!

Re: [RBW] Re: What is the most interesting thing in you parts bin?

2017-01-14 Thread Joe Bernard
Patrick, therein lies the problem small US parts makers encountered in the rear
derailer market: It may be cool and funky-looking and light (my Pro-Shift is
very light), but it was never going to shift any better than a much less
expensive XT mech. Then Shimano popped out 9-speed XTR and the game was over.

That's the one; thanks. I didn't realize it was WI, tho' it does fit with
their high end and elegant products like the ENO hub and DOS fw.

I seem to recall reading praises for its performance, the defects as listed
in DG notwithstanding. Still, it's obviously a complicated solution to a
problem, if problem it was, much easier solved by simpler means, like I
suppose the 8-speed era Deore XT rd.

I've used the Pro-Shift on several bikes. It worked fine with Shimano trigger

I've never laid hands on any of the deraileurs produced in the U.S. during

effectively moving a chain across gears. Neato looking bits though ...
