[RBW] Re: new Hillborne
Not very different, really. Having different rack arrangements is likely the biggest difference i'll have between them at any given time. Redundancy is a major goal. However, the setup for each bike is "fluid" in some sense; I have 5 cockpits that work on either. Albatross (one Thumbie, one bar-end), Bullmoose, Moustache, Noodle. And as soon as I can get my hands on the Bosco 58cm bar (non-moose), I'll have a half-dozen. DaVinci couplers are my friends. Either bike can be a grocery hauler, a commuter, a camper, a recreational rider, a grand-day-out'er. And Orange has been all of these things, over and over. Green will simply share the burden. And now re-configuration or maintenance will not have to fit into the window between commutes! I have indeed found the bike I love. The rear Platrack with SlickerSack seems so obvious as a practical way to haul stuff that I'm a little surprised it wasn't at least part of the marketing. If it has some fatal flaw then I've yet to discover it on my initial ride. It works beautifully. I haven't fine tuned the fit yet; I need to shave the struts and/or adjust the height on the Mark's rack. I may end up with two sets of Platack struts if I can't find common ground between the Mini in front and the Mark's in back. (I certainly want to maintain the potential for using the Platrack in the front. Who knows; I may end up with two Platracks at some point.) Awesome. Two Hillbornes! You must have found the bike you like, that is for sure. Are the setups going to be completely different? Super great-looking bike with all the Rivish goodies! I like the blue twine, which I presume is not shellacked. I never thought of colored twine before. I really like the orange paint scheme with blue accents. I'm sure you'll enjoy riding this for a long time.
