Also am hoping they actually do arrive. Will order at least one, mebbe two. With a huge caveat - depends on the actual sizing of the item. Hopefully XL will be made. And hopefully it isn't starving Italian XL. Used to wear wool/tweed sweaters back in college. Would like to do so again, if for no other reason to honor the memory of a friend. Hopefully, the sizing won't be too bad. While I love the cowboy shirts, they are only good for me as an over-shirt with rolled up sleeves. Both the arms and side cuts are too short. And hopefully it isn't starving Italian XL. I think the reason Riv dropped them is the original manufacturers (as I understand a couple working literally out of a cottage in rural Englad) retired. Presumably Riv found a new manufacturer so prior sizing will be no guide. For what it is worth my Woolywarm Cardigan is larger than I expected. Not a problem as I can wear it over a a shirt and light sweater on winter nights with my thermostat at 55. On Jan 19, 9:26 am, EricP ericpl...@aol.com wrote: Also am hoping they actually do arrive. I have one of the Sugoi Long sleeve wool jerseys that is kind of what you describe, one small pcoket, very heavy 100% wool design with a simple retro front logo. It's my go to top for nightime winter rides in chilly So Cal. [RBW] Re: tweed knit sweaters are coming back!
The blue trainer Riv offered had a small wooly warm logo with a lamb on it. That's plenty logo right there. I would've bought one but I only had enough money for either the trainer or the heavy wool pants (remember those?), and picked the pants. So yes, a Pleading For list might be cool. [RBW] Re: tweed knit sweaters are coming back!
Actually, my main worries are (a) european rather than US (over)sizing. Although am quite comfortable in most XL clothing, with, say, Rapha, XXL is still tight. (b) with the higher cost of items, would not surprise much if the only offerings were S, M, and L. Then would be on the outside looking in. (Do believe Grant used starving Italian to refer to sizing of the old wool jerseys that Rivendell sold.) Have also never missed a meal. There is a reason no one says starving Swede or starving Norske. Re: [RBW] Re: tweed knit sweaters are coming back!
Sizing amounts to a black art and varies radically from manufacturer to manufacturer and from country of origin to country of origin. Americans are unfathomably huge to much of the world- both in height and girth. If you travel a bit you will often observe that Americans tend to be both the tallest and widest people in a crowd. And the loudest, too. In Paris I noticed that you could spot Americans a block away, easy. We're just that much bigger. Restaurant staff knew I was an American before I had gotten across the threshold. I found that the Riv seersucker shirts fit me well, but most other Riv XL tops have been too small for a 6'4 215 lbs guy. However, that's by no means unique to Riv, at many stores I have to look at XXL and/or XL-tall. Then the items are usually such too large in the torso to get them long enough in the arms. At LL Bean, OTOH, I have to buy L-tall or I can use the shirt as an overcoat. I do not envy Grant/et al in trying to get sizing right. I imagine it is the source of many headaches. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group.
