Don't give up on the Clem L!

My Pleasanton-based mother had a step thru Trek hybird that she was excited
to get (moderate price point, good local shop), but ended up riding only
begrudgingly after a couple years. Even with tune-ups and different tires,
it just didn't "roll very well" in her words.

Anyway, she has a green Clem L now (fenders, big Wald basket on the front)
and cannot get enough of it. "This bike just...goes...when I pedal it" is
how she puts it. Come to think of it, that's probably the best compliment
you could ever come up with for a bike.

The Recyclery in San Rafael (a bit of a haul, I know) tends to have a fair
number of used commuter type bikes at reasonable prices. I am going to be
stopping by this afternoon and will let you know if I spot anything decent.

You might try California Pedaler in Danville - they always have used bikes
as they have a good trade-in policy.

The IGH might be tough to find on a used bike beyond a 3-speed.

Ted,

Its a bit more of a drive, but technically still in the east bay. Check out
Luckyduck Bike Cafe in Oakland. Its a lovely little shop that has a bunch
of used (nice) bikes for sale and they definitely cater to the commuting
type, but the prices may be a bit steep. It's worth a call or a look
though...

2019-04-23 Thread Bill Lindsay
The shop I would recommend is Blue Heron Bikes in Berkeley. Blue Heron has
the Clem L, among other things. If her budget is like $300 though, I don't
know that she'll find anything there. She maybe should have a look at
Public Bikes to stay in the 400-600 range, but that's just direct online
purchasing.
